Yeah, I'm on EE, have the latest iOS update, but don't see that setting. How do you update the Carrier Settings?

When you've had a phones you can't use at home for the last 5 years it is awesome when it finally works! :P

Carrier settings are in Settings>General>About

If an update is available you will see it there

I don't think wifi calling will change my life as generally I have full 4g coverage at home, at work and most places I go. Places I have no signal I generally don't have wifi but I guess the odd occasion when I'm stuck in a hotel in the arse end of nowhere it will be helpful.

The wifi calling says something about the network getting details for billing purposes.

Does this mean that if you're connected to a wifi network abroad then you'll be charged an international rate? FaceTime audio still clearly the way forward if so.

Wifi calling doesn't work from abroad.
FaceTime audio is fine if the other person has it too!

WiFi calling CAN work from abroad, EE have just chosen to implement it such that you get charged.

I have an American T-Mobile account and Wifi calling while I'm in England works well. I can make and receive calls as if I were in America.

Are the networks expecting to make money from it?

If I'm calling someone who isn't on an iPhone then I'll use Skype.

Seems a bit pointless.

yes

I seem to be going through a lifetime when I'm at my dense-est, but what is actually the point? Anyone?

So if you've got no mobile signal, but have wifi, then you can make or receive calls and texts. It's not exactly rocket science. hehe

My dad for example, or customers using the business my partner runs don't always have Skype, iMessage, FaceTime or similar. Just a basic phone that can text or make calls.
They will now be able to contact on our mobiles at home or in the village.
How it can be called pointless is beyond me!
If you struggle for a signal it is a godsend, we've waited for something like this since mobiles have been sold!

For me, it's pointless.

Not only that but if I use it then i can no longer take calls on my iPad or Macbook.
