I had an Ipod Classic 80gb model, which unfortunately was stolen.

I'd like something similar with the big capacity, but the current Ipod Classic range seems really expensive now - over £300 on Amazon for a 160GB version. All of the others are used versions of older models.

Are there any other high capacity players that anybody can recommend, or something that I can expand with memory cards? I'm currently using my wifes old Ipod Nano, but it's only got 8GB, and the battery has seen better days.

Thanks,

Mike

P.S., I know this has been asked before, but a lot of stuff I've read on the subject is a few years old now!

First you need to establish a max price, the range is pretty much from a few £ for a generic Chinese Mp3 player to the £2,000 Astell & Kern AK240. Then you need to decide on sound quality, battery life, portability and storage as you already mentioned.

Cowon and Sony are good mainstream players, Fiio and Ibasso are great Chinese players, Astell & Kern and Calyx M are probably the best that (a very big amount of) money can buy.

I would be looking at Ibasso DX50, Fiio X3, Cowon D20 M2 X9 X7, all can be had within or slightly over budget, and they all sound great.

The DX50 has the advantage of being able to run Rockbox too.

The Sansa Clip is very good if you don't want an iPod. 8GB plus it takes a micro SD. No iTunes, just drag and drop.

Yes, how could I forget the Clip, excellent little player with a big sound for not much money.

I use my phone (Lumia 620) with a 32GB microSD card. The new Lumia 530 will take a 120GB cards (it's cheap because the screen is not very good). I'm sure there are Android phones that take larger capacity SD cards.

I've got an iPhone ...

I saw the sansaclip on Amazon, seemed to get mixed reviews, but if it plays music well I don't need lots of other features !

I bought a Sansa Clip, to be honest though (I listen to music in car / running, so don't need audiophile quality) Spotify is unbeatable for me on my iPhone. I'm free from iTunes and the music uses so much less space.

My needs are probably different, I've given up owning hard copies of music / storing digital music.
