OK, so after downloading to a PC, connect the iPad to it, and you mention "Click restore holding the shift key" assume this is on the PC?

You mention a back up, all I have on the iPad is some photoes, and my address book, will I loose them. Bloody Apple.

Yep, the instructions are pretty clear on the link I posted above. You click on the iPad icon to the top right in iTunes, then hold the shift while clicking on the restore button in the pop up menu.

Finally the most annoying was losing my address book, but just need to harmonise iCloud accounts and should be able to recover this from my iPhone.

Has anyone else's wifi been incredibly patchy/slow since upgrading to iOS8?

Both my iPad (4 - retina and lightning connector) and iPhone 5S will work fine 2/3rds of the time, then will take a spend two minutes at least 'loading' webpages, but just sitting there, doing nothing.

At first I thought it was to do with my home router, and after some googling changed the channel of my wifi in the house. Didn't fix it. It's the same on wifi at home, in the office, on the tube - really patchy.

I upgraded my phone first, and discovered the problem. My iPad (still on iOS7 at the time) was fine - then I upgraded my iPad and immediately had the same problem.

Looks like I'm not the only one: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6546549

I've had iPhones since the original, and have never been one to whinge about an iOS upgrade, but this rankles a wee bit. It's odd though, because it's clearly not affecting everyone!

Anyone who has updated an iPad 2, any ill effects, slowdown etc?
Yes, definitely. The blue bar just stops loading - had to refresh several times on many occasions. Messed around with various settings, all to no avail. Only consolation is that it seems I'm bit alone.

Anyway, I've downgraded to iOS 7.2.1....and it now works as before the iOS8.

I've lost no speed at all. I don't use iCloud - could it be that after a upgrade its trying to take a full iCloud backup which Is hammering the network in the background?

I had lots of issues with iOS 8. Slow to type with bad lag, safari taking ages to load and a general feeling of slowness. I also downgraded to iOS 7.1.2 last night and things are much better so will stay on this version now.

Has anyone had issues with 3rd party keyboards?
It seems to revert to the default keyboard for some reason, can't seem to put my finger on it why it does that???

Frustrating! How can it be this hard to implement, just copy the functionality from Android 1.5 from 5 years ago, worked fine then.

Is it easy to downgrade? I'm tempted to upgrade the Air, but we need it for business use so would like to be able to revert if everything is still unstable.

How did you downgrade? I tried the link on a couple of pages ago, but just can't find this on the bit in the instructions

"Open iTunes and choose the iOS device, which can be found to the left of iTunes Store button or at the top right corner"

Just can't find the iOS device anywhere on the screen.

Hi Vipers, I had the same problem at first. Had to update iTunes to the latest version before I could persuade my PC yo recognise the iPad. A lot of faffing around and I really hate iTunes!

Download tne ios file onto your pc from the internet.
Connect device to pc and start itunes.
Hold home and reset keys for 10 secs.
Release the reset key only.
This will put you into recovery mode - screen will change on device. Message will appear on itunes to say recovery mode.
Then hold shift key down on keyboard (windows) and left click restore backup at same time.
Choose the ios file you downloaded.
And off it goes.

I rolledback last night.

Make backups just in case.

This is for a clean install.
As i went from ios 6 to 8 then to 7

These are the instructions i used -

This happened to me until I removed the standard one after choosing the 3rd party one. Try that? You should be left with just the new one in the keyboard list.

Unless I am missing the obvious, I have a home key on the keyboard for the PC, but I don't see a reset button.

I have three keyboards, and neither have a reset button........

Probably that the home and the reset keys are on the iphone not the computer- the reset button presumably the one on the side/top depending on model

Are you joking, like a snails pace.

It's fine on my iPad 2, but I have very little data on mine and only a few apps, it's connected to my Exchange, I read the Times and do a bit of web browsing and there's a couple of kids games on it.

For ipad 2 - do not uograde.

Freezes crashes
Having to reset several times when restarting
Screens slow or impossible to render
20 plus seconds to load websites
Many apos not working correctly

Most surprising
Ios 7 look and feel looks same as iis 8 to me

Do not upgrade ipad 2

Can check out web for similar opinions

Can diwngrade again - but doubt that avenue will stay open as apple will not authorize old ioss after a period of time

Yes. Wifi is fubared.

I'm sure 8.1 (or 8.0.1) will be along soon enough...

No issues here on 22 ipad2 and 14 original iPad mini which use the same cpu.

Obviously some people are having issues, but it certainly doesn't apply to everyone. Sorry, but I have no idea what makes it work for some and not others.

I do always close all apps and do a hard reset on each device post upgrade but I see people have already suggested that a number of times for you.

It is odd.
But there are plenty of people out the including me who find their ipad 2 unusable post ios 8.

Maybe a different cpu?
Apparantly apple change the cpu to a slower but more battery efficient cpu in 2012.
But then my ipad is pre change.

The general consensus out there seems to be dont upgrade ipad 2.

Its a faff downgrading.
I pity the poor grannt sitting at home who upgrades.
Not exactly user friendly getting back to ios 7.

And as i said before the look and feel of ios 8 seems pretty much the same as ios 8.
That was a surprise to me as i upgraded from ios 6 (which it is not possible to go back to).

Im reall y not sure its worth upgrading anyway.
Considering its supposed to be a big update'
