I use remote desktop to access the server on one of our sites, I am a Mac user and so recently downloaded the Windows remote desktop app, which is much better than accessing through Internet explorer.

I can connect to the server fine, but only if I use internet explorer to wake up the target server. I have set up a VPN to try to sort this out, and can connect that to the server, but I still can't get the initial wake up to work.

Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Is the server actually going to sleep? Seems a little odd for a server...

This is the thing, the server is awake.

I can connect using Internet explorer and the remote desktop through there, but when I try to connect via the Windows Desktop app it says computer asleep or somesuch.
The weird thing is that if I connect via internet explorer, then start the app on the Mac, if I then move the curser on the server the App will then connect no bother and keep working.
