Android phone user here always have, the rest of my family are firmly in the iphone camp.
This is the first time I have an up to date top of the range phone ,in the last 8 years Samsung has been my choice because I know their lay out ,another type of phone will only confuse me at my age.

Are we including price?

Because I'd really love to use an iPhone day to day but object to paying for one to use a Nexus 4 so don't know how I should vote smile

I have a Galaxy S4 for work and an iPhone 5S for personal. The iPhones are easier to use, more polished and just look and feel better quality. People dislike Apple because of their high prices and iTunes which is fair enough. For me, once I got my head around that, they are actually nicer bits of kit.

There's a guy at work who always try to convince me otherwise. He gets his huge, ugly device out (ooh er misses) and clunks around to show a feature off. Each to their own and all that and I accept that these days the top Android devices do the same thing but I just prefer to use the iPhone.

I haven't used a Windows phone but we offered a choice of phones at work. About 65% went iPhone, 30% went Samsung, 1 person wanted a Blackberry and the rest wanted Windows.

One of my team has a 5S for personal and went Galaxy S4 for work. He hates the Android and wants to swap it for Apple. Personjally, I don't think the Android system is too bad, just not as nice.

What annoys me most, but Samsung loves this I guess, is the constant thinking that Android = Samsung.

There are far better phones out there in a user experience kind of way. Samsung went the apple way of keeping the interface the same for years, while Android has evolved greatly into a much simpler and better looking system.
As good as the SGS5 is, the interface looks dated and needlessly complicated to me next to a Nexus 5.
I can even see people preferring an iPhone over an SGS, but put a HTC One next to it and it feels like you're 5 years ahead in functionality and design.

After having two Samsung handsets with smashed screens I vowed never to have an other Samsung, I had a Sony Z1 but it was rendered useless by the constant Sony upgrades. Now have a iPhone 6 plus, and TBH it does exactly what I need, long battery life, seamless interaction with OSX. ITunes is so poor on Windows but just kinda works on OSX.

What annoyed me the most with Android is the drip feeding of the OS, when a new one was released unless you had a vanilla google one, you had to wait for the manufacturers to get their fingers out and release it, and if your phone was carrier supplied then you had to wait for them. You could be waiting a year after the release for it to filter to you.

I do like Android and find it a better OS, I like the widgets, easy to get to the apps you use most. However, messages(OSX)/imessage(iOS) is awesome, I can speak to my wife and the rest of my family very easily, responding from my Mac, I don't need to have different apps open for different people. The ability to track my wife's phone via find my friends (much like Google latitude before they canned it) also makes iOS a better choice for us.

I've owned my iPhone 4S now for three years after being a Blackberry 9700 owner. It took a while to adjust! But I was very disappointed in a lot of respects with the BlackBerry. Satnav was abysmal and every app I downloaded would hardly work and browsing wasn't a fantastic experience. But was my first smart phone and loved having a camera/video recorder, MP3 player all combined within the one tiny device and the battery life was phenomenal, lasting up to a week with low usage!

Initially, I was frustrated with the iPhone, signal strength wasn't particularly great and obviously, battery life was shocking in comparison. But it was so nice knowing that any app I downloaded, would work, a selection of free sat nav apps even covering New Zealand.

Since I've had the phone, There have been two major OS updates that have breathed fresh life into the thing too, it's like having a new phone again. And to top it all, the phone is probably still worth a hundred quid, so pretty low cost of ownership really. But I'll probably keep it for another year at least anyway.

My Android experience has been pretty dire (tablets and phones), though this has always been on the lower end of the price spectrum, so unfair to give a direct comparison, but then maybe that's the point, Apple refuse to release below par products, the likes of Samsung will.

If you count my tablets then I use all three platforms regularly and my personal preference (and hence what is on my personal mobile) is WP8 but I can easily see how others would make different choices. There really isn't a wrong choice amongst the big three just down to whatever needs you have.

I've had a Windows Phone for about four years now. WP7 was great, WP8 is... alright... they just keep removing the features that made it great to begin with. Ie, the seamless integration with social media, cloud storage, etc. I may go Android at my next upgrade because of this.

Ditched Apple about 18 months ago due to sheer boredom. Been on WP8 ever since and never looked back. The simple ability to drag and drop, with no ties to iTunes, is like a breath of fresh air. Good riddance Apple.

I won't touch Apple stuff for various reasons and Windows phones just seems insane, but Android just gets bastardised so much by manufacturers it's equally annoying. I had to root mine and install cyanogenmod just to stop it peeing me off.

Build quality on Android phones also irks me quite a lot, current phone is a Samsung S4 and for the cost of it it's a horrible plasticy affair and far too big (yeh there are smaller ones but seems you have to have a massive screen to have decent hardware too). I dream of the days when I could use my phone with one hand and it wasn't seemingly designed in such a way that it could, at any time, inadvertently slip from your grip in such a way as to go flying through the air with a ballistic trajectory.

Android user here, I can make my android device mine and individual (without rooting) where as all apple phones looks the same.

Widgets. I have a clock and weather widget and believe they are only just becoming available on apple. I don't bother with many more but the option is nice.

Price. Hard to justify itax.

And if you want iOS you have the choice of iPhone or ummm iPhone.

I'm Android throughout.

Have 'played' with a few different iPhones over the years but have never seen them as being worth the extra money and it is only in the last few years that you seem to be able to 'port' stuff from iOS to Windows, etc.

I also find that Android is intuitive for me, Apple is like learning text speak when you have a classical education...

These discussions usually miss the point.

Apple products are a lifestyle choice. (Due to excellent marketing, products, gullibility You decide)

Everything else is just bought for functionality. (When has there ever been a queue outside a shop for a newly released Android phone?)
Ahem...

Pah.
Where's the tents and sleeping bags.

Poor effort.

I recently got a new Moto G 4G. No upgrade cost, vanilla Android 4.4. It does everything I need a phone for.

I did - but i assumed (clearly wrongly) that they were about as popular as a cocktail stick in the urethra.

My apologies.

Apple, but it's not specifically because of the phone.

I like Macs, OSX for me is spot on, used them for years and know the software well. I like that although they're a bit more expensive than say a Dell when I sell one for an upgrade I get a decent price for them thus making upgrades quite inexpensive. Every version of Windows is more frustrating to use than the previous one and I got fed up and changed, I use Linux a bit also but the lack of commercial software is frustrating, so happy with the Mac and unlikely to change any time soon.

So I've 3 of those and the way they integrate with the iDevices is lovely, more so with the new OS (10.10 that's due out soon).

One thing I like is AirPlay, I can remote control my iTunes library on the upstairs Mac and get it to play wirelessly to my Airport Express', find it cool to be able to select which speakers in the house the music comes out of. I like being able to present my iPhone screen on the computer, the iPad works well to control the mixer in Logic etc, the integrations of Messages. There's a big long list of integrated functionality that is lost if I was to switch any of the components to a 3rd party brand.

I think that if I was using Microsoft or Linux on my desktop then there'd be a less compelling reason to use an iPhone but that said I've never had a problem with mine, find them easy to use and are reliable, but it's a phone so in itself it doesn't really interest me,

You sound exactly like me.

we have 2x iPhones, iPad, AppleTV and a Macbook Pro (i also run logic) and i have Raspberry pi's running as an airplay slaves (Cheaper option to allow multi room audio)

This 'hand off' option coming in the new Mac OS has got me quite excited (in a geeky kinda way)

I agree with most stuff thats been said on this thread, so i will try a summary..

Yes Android is more customisable,
Yes the build quality on most android devices is not as good as apple
Yes apple products are expensive
Yes apple iOS is easier to use day to day
Yes apple stuff plays nicely with each other (far smoother an experience than any other manufacturer combo)

I am really impressed that we have (so far) managed an intelligent and logical conversation on a subject that seems as emotive as religion some times!
