Just to wind up all those that are moaning like crazy about ios 8 and/or iphone 6 I thought I's start a thread on the clever stuff spotted. Apologies if its been in earlier versions but not spotted before.

First off - I'm starting to receive emails from people and its giving me the option to add them to my contacts including email and phone number details. It just seems to appear at the top of the email.

And not having had a 5s before with the finger print reader but as my company insists on 8 digit strong passwords, the finder print thing works really well.

I like the fact I can receive and make calls on my iPad when my phone is in the kitchen. I also like the weatherpro widget much better than the built in yahoo weather.

Will watch topic to see if there's any new features that'll justify the upgrade on my aging iPad 2.
Nothing so far... wink

Have you used chrome/gmail on any android phone? My web links are synced with all my devices and emails are saved in draft if I choose not to send them. Again I can pick these up....

Yup, have a Sony Z1 and 2 Nexus Tablets. Clearly you don't know what Handoff is.

Handoff allows you to answer calls on your iPad when someone is calling your phone and you're on the same wi-fi network, additionally you can answer calls on your Mac once Yosemite is released, still waiting to see Android do that. In October, you'll be able to reply to SMS sent from any phone from you Mac or iPad.

I do like the new features of Siri. Being able to ask it what a track is saves me having to have shazam and I was always slow loading it. The other is being able to talk to Siri when it's on charge. It means when driving I can now get it to navigate to the nearest petrol station on a route or send a text message without touching the phone (i didn't used to use my phone I may add I hate the thought of driving and phones)

There is a certain amount of irony in the Apple camp who have long derided large android phones now lauding a feature that allows them to take a phone call on a 10" tablet.

Funny old world sometimes.

The thing is apple take a good idea and polish it off into a seamless iOS. They maybe a few years behind in terms of software features but when they do it they do it right.

Liking the new icloud features which is set to only get better once this new Idrive is launched. I took a risk going from a pretty full 32gb iPhone 5 to a 16gb iPhone 6 - got rid of all apps and games I rarely used and now keep all my music and photos in the cloud, in London with 4g and wifi on most tube stations, I've now got 6gb free on my current phone and constant access to all my stuff which i now stream. It works well and easy to set up.

So it's as innovative as the identical features of BlackBerry Bridge between a BB phone and PlayBook?
You could do that several years ago. Well done, Apple.

Continuity features are available on iPhone 5 or later, iPad (4th generation), iPad Air, iPad mini, iPad mini with Retina display and iPod touch (5th generation).

1. Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi system. You can't make or answer a call on your iPad if it's with you in Cleveland and you've left your iPhone at home in Long Beach. Use Settings/Wi-Fi on each device to manage the connection.

2. Link both devices to the same iCloud account. Settings/iCloud manages this.

3. Activate FaceTime on both devices. At Settings/FaceTime. It's possible that the installation of iOS 8 activates FaceTime by default -- it was active on my devices when I started, though I may have done that myself at some other time. Anyway, if not, activate it.

4. Enable "iPhone cellular calls" on both devices. This switch is on the Settings/FaceTime page.

Then--and this is the secret key:

5. Turn off Wi-Fi calling on your iPhone (Settings/Phone/Wi-Fi calling). That's right -- the iPhone handoff won't work if your phone is configured to use the other great new iOS 8 function, Wi-Fi calling.
