Hi all,

I recently bought my wife an Oppo Find 7a, and at first, we thought it was excellent. It had several brilliant features but it really does feel like it is a beta test phone. Lots of crashes, corrupted the 32Gb card losing all the data on it, randomly freezing etc. So I am in the process of returning it now.

Wife has said she would be more than happy with my Note 2, so it means that I can then go for an upgrade.

I actually really like the Note 2. It is the perfect size for me, does everything I need it to do etc.

I have a budget of up to £350, and would, if at all possible, like to buy it from Amazon as they have exceptional customer service (which I have used once with the Note 2, and I would desperately like to have with the Oppo but so far, the service has been mediocre at best).

So, in summary, the phone must be Android, under £350, 5.5" screen or there abouts. It does not have to be the latest or greatest (have considered the Note 3) but it should be new, and from a recognised mainstream brand, and from Amazon.

So, the floor is yours.

Thanks

If you can't wait for the Nexus 6, I'd take a look at the Nexus 5 or Moto G.

Nexus 6 (november?)
Z2 (2nd hand?)
Nexus 5 (bit old, great phone)

Very happy with the LG G2 I got a couple of weeks ago. For £300 it's great and I'm happy it'll keep me going for a couple of years.

I used to buy everything from Amazon but I try to avoid them these days. Aside from their dubious tax arrangements, they have too much market share for my liking and half the stuff on there isn't even sold by them.

So I got it from Dabs, who threw in some free headphones too smile

It has an excellent screen, great performance, some handy features and the battery life is superb - two days is entirely achievable under normal use.

The only downsides are the camera still struggles to get a non-blurry photo of my dog (not sure any smartphone camera can though tbh), and 16Gb isn't really enough storage so I will have to manage my apps, photos and videos a bit (you can get a 32Gb EU version; I played safe).

Edit: Although I would probably wait to see what the Nexus 6 brings too.

Having looked at the Nexus 5 and G2, it appears they do not have an SD card slot - for this reason, they are out.

Thanks though!

Sony maybe a good call. I think there was a thread a couple of days ago about the Sony Z Ultra for £250ish. Might be a bit too large.

The g3 does have a removable sd. Up to 128gb I believe.

Wait until the SG Note 4 is fully out there and the SG Note 3 prices will drop a bit.

Wife has a Note 3 and she's really happy with it - I'm holding out for the Note 4 as my current S3 is grinding to a halt now.

Wait for the Nexus 6/X even if you've got your eyes on the 5, since it'll probably be discounted to clear stock. Since we're so close to that release I'd hold off either way personally.

I replaced a Note2 that got stolen with a Note 3. Excellent but of kit.

I'm pretty happy with my OnePlus One.
It has good specs for just £269. With 64GB of on-board storage who needs slow old SD Cards ?

Well, I have a few things to think about then!

Firstly, I have to wait for the whole Oppo situation to resolve itself. I am not happy with the phone and I have lost confidence in it - it needs to be reliable when out and about, without crashing or corrupting data. Once I have it returned and refunded, I will take a few weeks to see if the price of the Note 3 comes down when the 4 is released.

This is unless Amazon get their grubby mitts on a OnePlus One (rather than just a 3rd party selling through Amazon), in which case I could be tempted.

Some of the other options look interesting too!

Thanks to all

ZesPak is going to be gutted when he sees this thread. He's always going on about how great the Find 7a is and how good their customer service is.
