Seriously thinking about one of these to replace my 2012 Nexus 7 which didn't survive the Lolipop upgrade. Those who bought Hudl2 pre-Christmas, how are you getting on with it?
My Wife bought me one a few weeks ago, apart from the battery life, and also how long it takes to charge, I have few gripes with it; gets a bit warm on the left hand rear at times, it adjusts between dark and light poorly - if looking at a dark picture then going back to a light background like PH, you can see the screen adjusting back to the set brightness level; picky, but it can be annoying at times.

Stuck Real Racing 3 on it today and it plays it flawlessly, very impressed. It's really hard to fault at the price-point, the screen is great but you pay for it in battery life/charge time.

Paul O'Brien at MoDaCo has built a rapport with the Tesco developers and is feeding back issues to them, which they are keen to sort; there was a charging issue that stopped the device charging past a specific percentage, that seems to be cured.
I had the timekeeping issue today, need to keep an eye on that, but Tesco haven't dumped a cheap device on the market and not provided support, fair play for that. And it's easy to return if it chucks it.

Just a pity they won't release bootloader access (it would end up with windows 8.1 on it in due course due to having an Intel chip) They are not perfect, but unbeatable for the money.

Love mine. No issues at all. Yes the battery is poor, as is the camera. But screen is sharp, SD card slot, mini hdmi(use this all the time), all in all for 130 great value

I'm very tempted, I've got £28 of vouchers as well so it's a bargain. The camera on my Nexus 7 was pretty dodgy and I probably don't have an issue with being reasonably near to a power source, presumably it would charge from the laptop USB?

Cheap as chips really compared to some of the other stuff out there.

For me the camera is largely irrelevant because it's difficult to use the camera on any tablet due to the ungainly way you have to hold it to use it. Video, on the other hand, is easier I find.

I really can't complain for the price. It's a very good bit of kit and easily worth the money. I get most of the day with it, with heavy use but its never far from a charger anyway. Since the update I've had no charging issues. Camera is garbage but everything else is great. Mini HDMI plugged in to the TV HDMI means that I can watch whatever is on the screen at that time, not just certain apps.

Bought one in the New Year to replace a Nexus 7 and really can't complain for the price especially with the Tesco double points. But......... I picked up my third replacement yesterday. The first one had a dead pixel and went back after a day or two. The secord one lasted just over a month when it would not boot past the Powered by Android screen so they again changed it so fingers crossed. Other than that I think its great machine.

You can't as standard. It can be done via rooting the device and adjusting a one of the boot file names.

Oh dear...will have to try to avoid turning it off!

I've had the Hudl 2 for 24 hours and so far I'm pretty impressed with it, the screen is good, speed is great, the downside is it's making my N4 seem slow, this could be an expensive curve! I haven't really tested the batttery life on it but I'm liking the slightly bigger size compared to the N7.

So far so good smile

After discovering I had £95 worth of vouchers after boost, mine arrived yesterday in "Jazzy Blue". First impressions are great - once you have changed the launcher and got rid of the Tesco and Android bloatware, it runs very quick.

Perfect size for the little ones to watch The Lion King on our upcoming flight!

Question - can I stream video from my NAS / laptop to the Hudl 2? Our upstairs set-up is archaic and it would be nice to have the option to watch a movie in bed without having to save it to the Hudl 2 memory.

Can you please elaborate on 'removing the bloatware', and changing the launcher?

Removing bloatware - disable everything in the settings/apps that is tesco related. Well, that isn't quite removing, but disabling is close enough.

Changing launcher - go to the app store, look for launchers. Install one. It replaces the stock google front end to the device.

I just picked up a Hudl 2 at weekend, my old N7 was effectively dead (primarily down to 5.n trashing the device), my son had a good school report, lots of clubcard vouchers .... Hudl 2 is rather nice.

Yes. Download MediaHouse from the Play Store. It should see your NAS or PC and also any other DLNA devices you may have (Smart TV etc). It allows you to stream video from a NAS to either your TV or tablet. I use it all the time combined with Serviio on my PC. Works a treat.

What he said.

I downloaded Nova Launcher as it is highly customisable, allows you to disable (rather than remove) all the installed crap which slows the system down, and creates more flexibility on your homescreens etc.

Google Now and Apex are also good.
