So, after years of waiting our village has now been connected to optic fibre and has access to super fast broadband!

I've ordered BT Infinity, it's being installed next Tuesday. Speed between 60 and 80 mbps.

So, asides from the obvious reply of HD porn, is there anything that I'll be able to do that I haven't thought of?! It's going to be quite a revelation coming from our current 1 mbps connection!

For us it made access to all the streaming services much simpler / easier, so all the on demand TV - iPlayer, 4OD, ITVPlayer, Demand5, SkyGo etc. and stuff like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Spotify, etc.

Of course all the above plus all the porn you ever wanted to see and some you didn't and depending on your morals downloading as much stuff as you like (Torrents, UseNet etc.).

Despite being up to 40Mbps where we are we only get 20Mbps but it's enough for now, in future I could see it getting maxed out as the kids get older and they are streaming stuff at the same time as us.

Having a Home Theater PC helps with all the streaming stuff smile

Streaming and downloading is where it comes into its own.

We stream TV and films, as well as music (spotify). No issues in streaming to several PCs, whilst someone else listens to music whilst surfing.

Get a 4K monitor and you can have 4 simultaneous screens of full HD porn. Or 9 screens of 720p porn.

Is it always necessary? Infinity has just become available in my area. I'm in the town centre, and not far at all from the exchange. On my current normal broadband connection, I've never had any problems streaming anything! Will I even notice a difference with infinity? I can download a film torrent in about 8-10 mins at the moment.

I recently went from 10Mbps to 70Mbps and you don't really notice much difference for general browsing, youtube, etc. However I also use Steam for gaming and it's much better when you are downloading something that can be 50GB.

I love it, want to watch an HD film and it is instant.
Download a 20gb file in around 30 minutes.

It changes how you use it, it becomes pretty seemless. The fact you don't have to think about things is the best thing about it.

My 6 year old watched Star Wars, Empire and Jedi for the first time last week and tonight wanted to watch Episode 1.
Rather than go upstairs and find the blu ray, I just pulled down the 1080p file of it, 6gb in under minutes to download onto a USB stick and straight into the TV. Wonderful.

My issue though is BT, I am not a fan, I will move to BT business I think as I think there are too many on the residential connection as sometimes it can feel slower when browsing than my old Zen dsl, which was always 18meg and felt more nippy. Also have times when I get nothing for 30 seconds or so, never had that with Zen.
