I see Apple have spent the usual 30 mins adapting the latest update so it works on PC !

Does anyone know how I can manually add artwork now, used to be a simple cut and paste from web images, now it seems to want to force me to use icloud photos?

I won't ever use itunes artwork as previous updates use to wipe them out and leave my hours to restore them

Stuff about I tunes
No idea I just did some of mine easy as I right clicked on the album I clicked on Get Info I then clicked the box to the left of the artwork box and then copied and pasted my picture in. I just checked this then did it with the whole album rather than individual tracks. I have the latest version of I tunes on Windows 8.1 the artist was a home rip of a non cd available album:

Dunno if that's any help to the OP and its not meant to sound cocky or "I'm alright Jack" just that I have never had any issues. ditto when doing an upgrade. I actually have the same library on 2 machines and FWIW they are both "local" drives not networked. As this sort of "problem" interests me out of curiosity and for completeness as I'm in the process of enlarging the drive and was going to blank the old drive off to use in a PC I popped it onto a caddy board and hooked that to a USB socket on a router making it into a network drive. Linked the I tunes library on the PC to the network I tunes and AGAIN no issues when editing the stuff apart from the delay time due to network timings. I edited this post to show the stages I took it was the same whether with a whole "CD" or individual tracks whether locally or across network

Only thing I can think is that with your reference to " getting to work on a PC" that maybe your a mac user ?
Good luck anyway

thanks gpo

I have a PC, I highlighted 10 or so tracks, did the usual right click / get info, then marvelled at how Apple had made the tag data prettire but LESS easy to edit.

I found the album artwork image on google, copied, but could not right click paste on the grey box in itunes.

When I clicked on the artwork tab and "add artwork" it directed me to icloud or I had to select a file, I couldn't see where to paste

Did you save the picture to your C: drive, and then load it up from there?

You don't paste it.

From the 'get info' tab, select the artwork tab, click 'add artwork', and it opens a box to browse for the file on your computer. That is how it does it on a mac anyway.

Agree that it is better aesthetically, but a little more fiddly to use than itunes 11

No for full technical description reasons the Buckingham Nicks image was stored on a data drive - F (labelled) the I tunes library itself is on its own drive being labelled E However if the image was on my c drive itself its still able to be copied. FWIW I will come clean and admit that when I first replied I checked my I tunes was the latest version. It was but then after rebooting the PC and checking again after some windows updates had configured I checked again and I tunes indicated a later version. Had you looked in early this morning you would have seen screen grabs of the earlier (blue button) version. But it is really pretty much the same procedure for me. I just err well err borrowed a CD of Johnny Marr. Ripped it then right clicked get album artwork and voila it plopped it in but again if I then either right click album or individual song then get info then artwork tab I can change it to what I want.
I just cannot quite grasp your issue or why its happening tbh
I will be either deleting the Johnny Marr from my library or buying it soon honest

I've only ever added album artwork by saving the pic to a folder on my PC then uploading it to iTunes.

well the far easier way to do it was to copy the image and paste it straight into the get info screen, just paste it in the empty square on the bottom right

now it seems I have save it to a drive, then go and find it again

who on earth sits at Apple and thinks this is "progress" madfurious fecking idiots

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh getting your drift. No I just checked and I can't do that if I go on the web and see a pictute of say Deep Purple In Rock LP I cant then copy it and simply paste it into the artwork thing. But to be truthful I wasn't sure I could do that before.

Well lucky you pal

You didn't experience it's beautiful simplicity and easy of use, and have thus escaped the annoyance of its removal by some tech twassocks!!

I have to say that I quite like the new layout Adam !
It's not the most drastic of makeovers for me. I remember they changed it a few years back and that change was hard to get to grips with ? Can't remember how long ago. I just lurve how I tunes gets a new version every month or so now.

You don't need to right click and hit paste. Once when you copy your artwork from the webpage, click inside the empty box for artwork and use keyboard short cut (control V) this will paste the picture into the box.

fantastic thanks, tried that on the Details tab but it didn't work lime it does in previous versions

but it worked using ctrl + V in the artwork tab

still don't understand why they disabled the right click paste option, or why you are prevented from doing this on the Details tab (other than a general disinterest in making itunes work well with PCs)

oooo spotted another great feature though

if you edit, say, the album title of some tracks with long titles iTunes now decides the titles should be chopped down to less characters

So I have now lost the "adagio", "allegro", "andante" etc that was the only differentiating part of about 100 Mozart tracks

fking fkers mad

Well since this is an iTunes thread, can anyone play music from their library? I can't and it's pretty annoying to say the least. I click on a song I want to play, the album cover and song details appear on the header but that's all it does.

Sorry its me again. This interested me so again out of curiosity I did just that. I was able to change an album title to a long one with many characters. I changed AC/DC's "blow up your video" to "Blow up your video then seduce your neighbours wife while her hubby is down the boozer " - More than enough characters I would think ?
It accepted the change but admittedly would only display a certain amount up to
blow up your video and then seduce your neighbours wife while her hubby is do....

but by clicking on the album the full amount can be seen.
Again steps taken below :

I don't think the "new" editing boxes are that easy I prefer the older more rigid box style but the function seems the same to me. There has ALWAYS been some limitation as to FLAC files converts and then adding in artwork - your pretty much at the mercy of having to download from the I tunes store and it can get a bit critical of album title. You have to get an exact match. A way round that (in the case of albums that just would not get the artwork for from the store ) I had was to create AAC versions then put artwork against those then delete them and the artwork stayed.

don't apologise, the discussion is very useful

you misunderstand, here is what happened:

I already have AC/DC track as "Blow up your video then seduce your neighbours wife while her hubby is down the boozer"
The album title is missing
I highlight the track, right click, get info and add an album title as "AC/DC Greatest Hits"
Itunes changes the album title BUT ALSO shortens track title to "Blow up your video", cuts off the rest and shows a circle with 3 dots in it (their stupid Genius thing I think), it hasn't hidden full track title it it has removed it !!!!

So I have to manually go in and and bloody add back "then seduce your neighbours wife while her hubby is down the boozer".

Manually...

x 100+ tracks...

pricks!

Song lyrics in the Lyrics Tab are now in italics.

I didn't ask for my added lyrics to be in italics, I didn't give my permission for itunes to change my added lyrics to italics. There is no option in itunes to change it back from italics.

And the ability to Ctrl-A, Ctrl-C, Ctrl-V from within the Lyrics tab has now been removed.

Apple are a bunch of s!

I just did it and I SEE what you mean as I edited a song and gave it a fictitious album title. I saw your 3 dot thing but then when I click off that track it then displays as normal - I suspect its a time lag thing. I have done it with 2 other tracks and the same has happened

hope to god you are right, otherwise I have hours of editing to do

were you doing this to tracks from itunes which might be more robust? Mine were external downloads copied to itunes
