My other half has a Nokia Win 8 phone.

She wanted an app but does not have a MS ID so I used my hotmail account details.

Now she has all my email going to her phone and I cannot see any way to delete the Hotmail account from her phone.

Google search seems to imply you cannot delete the account - only way is to completely reset the phone.

Is this true?

It will be easier to just reset it. Get a new email for her if you have to. She cannot have much installed to lose!

Luckily she did not have much on the phone so we've reset. What a terrible system though that you cannot simply delete an email account.

I have a windows phone running 8.1, I've just gone in to my "e-mail+account" settings, I've pressed my e-mail account and held my finger on it until a new window appears with a menu, there are two thing in this window "sync" and "delete", I guess you select "delete".

If it was just an email account you could, but once you've set the whole phone up keyed on that account you are better off with a fresh start. Especially if it means your OH reading your mail!

The primary email account is in effect the user account for the phone. In the same way, you would lose all your programs and settings on a big computer if you deleted a user account.

As mentioned by others, you can add and delete other email addresses.

Only had sync as an option - maybe that's a difference between 8 and 8.1?

No, that's the difference between a primary email and the rest. If you tap on the sync, you can turn off the email sync effectively stopping the phone picking up emails.

but seeing as you've done the reset anyway, it's a moot point.
