Hi all,

Any BT engineers on here?

Moving from BT infinity to UW Ultra broadband, but let's gloss over that part.

We are to pay £30 for an engineer to come out and "install" the service, when we signed up with for infinity an engineer installed our pre-filtered master socket, tested the line etc.

As we had a Home Hub 5 we required no separate Openreach VDSL modem as it is built in but now will be using UW's rubbish router I need a Openreach VDSL modem.

As I see it the engineer is going to come out and plug in the Openreach VDSL modem and that will be that, if it is as simple as that then I would like to try and have them just send me the modem and avoid the engineer charge and the 2 week wait, especially since I'm nightshift that night and they will fleece me for £108 if I miss it!

Or is there more to it than that?

Thanks in advance.

Utility Warehouse use TalkTalk as the provider and supply a Technicolor TG582 modem, from memory. The line should already be active and connect up when the unit is installed.

I may be wrong though. Personally, I wouldn't touch UW.

BT, talktalk, UW all share the same network, yes the router is guff and I was happy with BT but unfortunately a family member is pushing UW so giving it a try, if results are not as promised I'll be leaving pronto.

All these mobs are crap in some way.

Don't have ultra, but have been with UW for all utilities for what must be nearly ten years.

They're utterly brilliant. Whenever there's been a fault with the network I've spoke to a real human, who has given accurate, specific information which has always been spot on.

Whenever I get a 'you may want to switch' cold call, as soon as I mention UW they tell me they can't beat it so have a nice night.

Suits me.
