Since I updated to the latest iOS my mini iPad has been incredibley slow. Has anyone else experienced this issue and have you managed to resolve it?

Thanks

Sorry to hear that although I'm glad in not the only one! smile

Does Apple recognise there is a problem or have they shirked it?

So what are my options? Can I return it to the shop I bought it from? Have a tear up in the apple store? Or just wait for apple to sort it out and release updated software?

Has anyone tried a factory reset? Possibly restoring from a backup afterwards. I've seen several anecdotal reports that this seems to help problems after upgrading.

This does not surprise me in the slightest. I am a disgruntled Ipad 1 user that will not invest in Apple ipad products again.

I think the business model relies on people upgrading every two years or so, once they bork your current hardware with a new IOS update....

You are probably also finding that it is a bit hot and the battery drains very fast?

Do a reset all settings - doesn't delete your data, does lose all settings so you'll need to put those back.

Disconnect it from iCloud. Selecting to erase all iCloud data from the tablet. Then reconnect and let it update itself again.

Been through this on my iPhone. Arrived with iOS 8.1. The above fixed it.

It helps on my 4S... for a couple of weeks. Can't be bothered to do it every week. After iOS7 crippled it I won't even dare to put 8.x on it.

Cheers Don, I will give this a go tonight, pretty frustrating though. I feel like Apple have me by the short and curlys!!

My iPad 2 is now pretty much fooked as a result of iOS8. Apple devices have always been pretty good at coping with updates long after their release but two and a half / three years seems to be the limit with tablets.

Will probably trade up to an iPad Air 2 in the next couple of weeks although the Nexus 9 is very tempting.

Mine only seems slow when doing certain things, typing addresses into Safari is now like pulling teeth. However all my applications/games/HD Video all still play perfectly with no slowdown at all.

Crossed over to Android tablets once, regretted it and came back to the iPad. I don't think Android is as good for tablets at all, fine for a phone. I also got very annoyed at Samsung and their lack of updates and support for my tablet. Apple does excel in this area.

have you updated to 8.1 my mini is certainly better. It's always worth checking with others before updating iOS, you must remember though that the mini is over 2 years old now if you have the original so like PC's you will find it is or feels slower than when new.

No problems on my mini with iOS 8. Our iPad 1is starting to creak a bit but I'm sure a factory reset will fix that

Our Tab 2 hasn't been perfect but no worse than our iPad, at nearly half the price. The nexus devices (got a 7) are in another league in terms of VFM ime.

My iPad 3 (I think that's the model, was bought blindly just a few weeks before release of the model with the lightening connector) has been very sluggish since the 8.0x and 8.1 updates.

Slightly critical for me (1st world probs etc) is I'm off overseas long-ish term in a couple of weeks so my iPad will become a very important travel companion, especially Youtube and browsing, both of which seem to be particularly affected by these updates.

I did a reset last night, as it was quite late I didn't have time to do any significant testing but browsing has improved from very sluggish to just sluggish. Youtube seemed fine with a couple of clips.

Prior to the 8.xx updates I was fairly happy with the performance so didn't really see the need to invest in the iPad Air 2, would be nice but not essential! biggrin

Being that I was more or less ok with iOS 7, djdestiny posted on this thread (unless I'm hallucinating which is possible) recently with a link to a site with access to lots of earlier iOS versions for restoring iPads.
His post, again unless I imagined it, may have been deleted in case it breached forums rules, if that is the case luckily I bookmarked the link.

Being not exactly at the cutting edge of these things I got stumped when I used the link.
It offered 2 versions of the last iOS 7 version for my iPad, one for CDMA whatever that is or one for GSM which is obviously more familiar.
There was a 3rd option for Wifi which I suppose would be included in the CDMA or GSM versions.

I don't want to kill the iPad as even Apple will give me a 100 quid trade-in if I end up getting an iPad Air 2 as a last resort.

So... what version should I restore, CDMA or GSM?

GSM is the only one used in the UK, CDMA do not require a SIM card and generally used in the USA.

This.

Has your iPad got a sim? Then you need the GSM one. If it hasn't, it's probably a "Wifi" only one so you need to use the wifi restore.

Many thanks for the quick responses guys.

@thehawk - GSM it is then cheers.

@zespak - no they're not, the bastids hehe . This one feels even more ruthless than the release that buggered the iPhone4 users and that was bad, obviously. BTW it has wifi, there is a sim.

I'll give last night's reset a chance for the next couple of days, if no good then I'll give this iOS 7 restore a whirl hopefully without killing the device! eek

Running out of time if I need to order a new one as I still need a bit of time to investigate VPNs (Sky Go, Lottery, etc), I haven't used a VPN for many years and only then on a PC.

Unfortunatley you won't, Apple stopped signing ios7 a while ago so you can't rollback.

I would reccomend a backup then restore to factory settings then upload your backup.
