Android 5.x "Lollipop"
Discussion
Youtube reviewer MKBHD did a short review on it:

Not a final version, but seems a lot of attention towards the design, not that much real features discussed.
Some extra standard toggles (screen rotation, brightness slider, flashlight,...) but these were very easy to add before anyway.
All in all looks great, has some more color than the previous design which is nice. I get fed up with all the flat white/pastel "design" these days.
The Nexus 5 runs it like a boss apparently, which is to be expected as it's still a pretty high-end device in terms of power.

Looks evolutionary rather than revolutionary.
Quite like the look of the "Screenpin" function for children's games.

Though in "profiles" you could do a lot more (ie allow a couple of games/apps).
Does seem odd that they could have added some more security to the screen pin rather than have it a small combination.

I know there are 3rd party solutions to this, but I'm hoping that ScreenPin adds an easy to use, robust app lock.
My understanding of 5 is that it is a lot about the UI and design of that...and making something work from a 65" tv down to a smartwatch...
I don't know if there will be a lot of visible additional functionality....I think a lot of it will be the UI plus under the hood API changes.
The UI looks cool - I'm looking forwards to it. They spent a ton of time on it - watch their 45 minute "material design" presentation by Duarte.

It's switched to ART so every device should run faster. http://www.anandtech.com/show/8231/a-closer-look-a...
I think you can switch on Kit Kat but you do so at your own risk as not everything is guaranteed to work.

I've had it running on the N5 for months as a daily phone and it was perfectly stable.I think you can switch on Kit Kat but you do so at your own risk as not everything is guaranteed to work.

Any idea how you go about switching to ART on a 4.x device? I've got a Toshiba AT300 tablet that could do with a bit of a speed-up.
In stock 4.4.4 it's under:Settings -> Developer options (make sure they're turned on) -> Select Runtime
I need my phone this week but will give it a go at the weekend I think
I've been running ART since last March on my N5. Never an issue. Unless that 'Google Bookmarks Sync Has Stopped Working' dialog I get occasionally is linked to it.
BUT; ART on all 4.x.x versions is not the final and full implementation. The proper implementation of ART is in 5.0 only. Hence the performance gains and battery improvements which are being associated with 5.0

I ran ART on my Nexus 5 and it was good, Running ART on my HTC One M8 now but it gets alot lower quadrant score, battery seems a little worse and some apps like Facebook stutter.
Some of the new "Material design" apps have started coming through the play store now like Google Play Music, the Play Store itself etc, also got the Lollipop keyboard installed.

I have Lollipop (developer preview) installed on my Nexus 7 2013. I am not sure in general use that the actual speed is much faster than Kit Kat. What Google have done is added smoothed out transitions so it's appears and feels faster. It's a user perception thing rather than a raw speed thing.
Go into Settings>About>Software Information>More and tap "Build Number" a few times, you'll get a pop up saying "press 3 more times to become developer", 2, 1 etc, then you'll get a box telling you you're now a developer, go back and developer options will have appeared near the bottom of the settings list.
