Android 5.x "Lollipop"
Discussion
I've been bombarded with daily upgrade prompts for a couple of weeks now. However been reluctant to install the update given my N5 is my main comms channel. Was planning to wait until the xmas break, or maintenance release. Given the arrival of the latter I'm wondering about the experiences.
I'm wondering how stable is it?
My biggest gripe with Kitkat is the continuous crashes when using the camera.

Am I alone in asking the following question?
What has Android 5 brought other than
Takes multiple additional steps to get to frequently used settings (ie selecting which wireless network to connect to, selecting which Bluetooth devices to connect to)?
Annoying that to clear your alerts, you have to scroll down to the bottom to select the clear all button?

The reason the Clear all button is at the bottom of the Alerts is so you actually check them all before clearing them. Kinda makes sense when you think about it.

Android OS, Android System, Mobile Standby, Google Play Services, Screen, Chrome using 23% of the battery constantly.
I haven't been using my 2012N7 much since 5.0 appeared (I've been using my W8.1 tablet more - better interface). My son wanted to use it yesterdy to play a little Angry Birds Transformers. I used to be able to leave it on standby overnight with little power drain, but woke up this morning and it was dead.
12% battery was sucked by "Media server". Nothing in the battery monitoring to explain why it died so darned quickly. Overall, would have been better remaining on KitKat.

My Nexus 7 on KitKat 4.4.4 had done that once, also my parents Hudl2 on 4.4.3.My son wanted to use it yesterdy to play a little Angry Birds Transformers. I used to be able to leave it on standby overnight with little power drain, but woke up this morning and it was dead.

I think it might be an inaccurate battery % display, that when charging to 100% and stopping has only charged to, say 60, 70 or 80%. A complete discharge and full charge fixes it. Or alternatively a factory reset or deletion of the right file which reading I think needed a rooted device. All this I got from some help forums.
Well my experience of Lollipop is poor. My phone has been very unstable for the last few days since I updated. I decided to restart it to see if that would help and it now won't boot up. Left it an hour to restart and it wouldn't start up. Thanks Google.
Has anyone else ended up with a completely useless phone as a result of this? Have I just been unlucky?

What Phone and What is on the screen when this happens?Has anyone else ended up with a completely useless phone as a result of this? Have I just been unlucky?
Maybe worth going into recovery mode and Wiping the Cache Partition, this should sort it out. Do not do a Factory Reset at this point.

Completely drained battery? Put the charger on it and leave it for at least an hour.Has anyone else ended up with a completely useless phone as a result of this? Have I just been unlucky?

It's a Nexus 5. I have tried all of the above and a complete reset and it hasn't helped. I just got off the (landline) phone to Google and they're sending me a replacement free of charge so they're doing all they can which is good. I'm just surprised that they've rolled out software that has proven so buggy to so many. I don't think I'll be so keen to update the new one when it arrives! Looks like Google updates are going to have to be treated like Apple ones from now on.For now I'm going to have to go back to Android 2.something on my back up phone, which I'm sure will be fun in a retro way.

Don't ever recall having that happen on KitKat, but as it has drained itself .... it'll be left on charge all day.
In my case both devices had the DU Battery app installed, although like many battery apps it can do more it was used purely for the battery % icon in the notifications and no other functions were activated. It like many battery apps can tell you how much charge you have left, how long it will take to charge. I think (and this is only my thought) if you change the charger as I did going from the puny one you get to a proper 2A charger or vice versa the app can get confused with predictions. This might be the case with the many other apps well, possibly even the device's own % charge indicator. DU has been removed, no issues since and I have used the 2amp charger and also the 1.x amp connection to my DAB radio over night. So once back to normal it might be ok.With Lollipop issues I think it's more with apps not being updated to use the new ART api yet.
Have they buggered about with notifications and volumes by any chance? I have used a profile widget for ages on kit-kat, and it always worked perfectly. I've tried it again on Lollipop, but i'm not convinced its working the same...this could be that its not been updated though, so I've removed it for now.
Using basic lollipop notifications, I keep finding i'm missing text notifications. I've checked the volume and thats fine, and I've made sure the priority settings are all off. It just doesnt seem to be working the same as before.
Has anyone else noticed any strangeness with notifications?

To select the WIFI network is easier than it first seems. When you pull down with 2 fingers to get to settings, or pull down twice with one finger, to Turn WIFI on/off touch the Symbol. To get to the Settings for WIFI click the TXT under the Settings ie the network name.
No it doesn't. 2-finger pull brings up the "Quick Settings" to turn Wi-Fi / Bluetooth on or off. To get to the settings, you then have to click on the "gear" at the top, which takes you into the actual Settings.igiveup said:

It doesn't make sense to me at all, since there are constant alerts and I don't want to have to scroll all the way down, so as to dismiss them and then constantly repeating and rinsing...Android 5.0 is tripe. Android 4.4.4 is rib-eye. I was promised fillet, but had offal delivered, instead.

or you can always only allow certain apps to notify you.
