Android 5.x "Lollipop"

Why is it that no 'WhatsApp' icon shows on the lock screen when I get a message (notifications are on) - all I see is my network provider 'EE' on the top left!
Also, on Kit Kat, when I held the power button down, I could switch my phone to silent/vibrate or normal, this feature is not there anymore, just the normal power off/restart/plane mode!
Any ideas on the having the above back to normal?
Thanks!

I don't get any notification icons either, just my network provider...Also the LED doesn't flash like it used to to show message/missed call etc - doing some searching it looks as though they have got rid of the silent feature now - I have to use the priority interruptions setting, set to 'None', to stop it from making any noise or vibrating - can't use this on a night time though as it stops the alarm working! so it means if I get anything during the night the phone vibrates! I'm pretty sure its a bug and will be sorted with another update
You set it to Priority, not none. You set the priority times to not be interrupted by any sounds (which is anything except alarms) eg 11pm - 8am and you star (favourite) any numbers you allow (family emergency numbers) to call you during the priority times you set.
Look in sound/notifications in the "interruptions" section. You can even specify days of the week above your sleep times.
And turn off events and reminders and messages in the priority section.
Not sure about the extra details on the Calls/messages section as I only have Lollipop on my tablet, not my phone yet.
You still have the option to do a temporary mute of calls/messages/noises by pressing the volume and selecting priority and tapping the indefinitely button which sets it to priority until you change it back or specify a period of hours or minutes. Or None stops everything including alarms. Then volume/All to get back to normal.

I've added 'Interruptions' to the drop down, so this makes it a little easier (thanks guys)
Another thing that is now bothering me, why is Google Play always showing as a active app. I don't use the damn thing, always end the app but somehow after 30 mins the mofo keeps going active again (really annoying)
Is there a way I can just kill it?

For those having bother with the Nexus 7, stick cyanogen on it; simple process, really is. It consists of going in to settings and enabling USB debugging mode and ticking to allow apps from unknown sources; go to the cyanogen site and install an app on your device and an installer on your pc; run the app on your device, disable antivirus on your pc, plug your device in to your pc and follow the instructions on your pc. It really is that simple.
I used it last week on my Wife's Samsung galaxy S3 and it has transformed it from a laggy piece of st in to a fairly slick device indeed.
Mind and back everything up beforehand! And have a look on YouTube for tutorials.

After waiting months for my S5 to go from 4.4.2 to 4.4.4, I finally get 5.0 last night.
Overall, I'm impressed, looks much slicker and seems to run slighter better.
Battery life seems to be normal.
I'm not so impressed.... had been using Blocking mode to prevent phone calls/messages/notifications at night (except from family), this option seems to have disappeared? I can't set priority mode to come on automatically at night, think Samsung have left this out. And when I (manually) started priority mode last night, I got woken up by a vibrating notification telling me that the battery was fully charged - cheers for that. Any ideas?Overall, I'm impressed, looks much slicker and seems to run slighter better.

Which ROM did you use? I used it last week on my Wife's Samsung galaxy S3 and it has transformed it from a laggy piece of st in to a fairly slick device indeed. [/footnote]
I've just installed Resurrection Remix (Lollipop 5.02) from official CM11, and it's improved speed and battery life. I haven't found any bugs yet...

So, what do I need to do to get 5.0 on it (I'm a novice so basic instructions please :-))
The Smart Lock thing is useless
A) it doesn't seem to work all that well and B) appears to sap the battery life because its always checking where it is.
Why didn't they just tie it into WiFi? i.e. when you're connected to your WiFi at home, you don't need to have the lock screen!

There is an app that does exactly that (has been around for a while), although its reliability was pretty flakey last time I tried it. A) it doesn't seem to work all that well and B) appears to sap the battery life because its always checking where it is.

My Moto G (2nd Gen) has the 'unlock with trusted Bluetooth devices' functionality on KitKat. It works well enough for the car where it stays permanently connected as an audio device, but is next to useless with on-demand Bluetooth connections such as the one between my computer and the phone, because the handshake is dropped and re-established on demand. Whilst dropped, you don't get the unlock facility.
As you say, what is really needed is WiFi and-or geolocation to establish unlock zones, not just Bluetooth.
Have you tried setting up Tasker or IFTTT recipes to control it?

Ill have a look at tasker. I do use IFTTT but I hadnt seen one that does unlock/lock? I think IFTTT is pretty flakey as well, I have been using it to log when I arrive and leave work, but some days it doesn't trigger at all and others it will trigger multiple times. This is using WiFi as the trigger. When I tried using the geolocation as the trigger it didn't work at all.Useful Tasker examples wiki here - http://tasker.wikidot.com/profile-index

I agree about IFTTT. I have set up a few IFTTT 'recipes' recently and found that some work and some don't. I have also gone back to Tasker (which I have not used for a while) and set up a task which switches off the lock screen when the phone is on my home wifi. The only downside is that, unless the phone is rooted, this task only works with a password or PIN lock and not a pattern or fingerprint lock. However, it has worked perfectly since I set it up on Saturday morning.Cheers
