Does anyone use Google Play on an iPhone? My daughter seems to be hammering through her data allowance even though she has the ‘Downloaded Only’ slider activated. I tried turning her cellular data off and anything in her ‘My Library’ still plays ok but anything in ‘Playlists’ is unavailable, even though it shows as downloaded (the orange circle with a white tick in it).

Does that sound right i.e. if she wants to play anything in a Playlist, she really needs to be on wi-fi? Seems a bit silly if it is supposedly downloaded?

OK, I'm lost.

Google Play is for Android devices, iTunes is for Apple devices.

They are not cross-compatible.

Huh? biggrin

I got a 6 month free trial of Google Play with my Sonos and I have the Google Play Music app on my and my daughter's iPhone. Works great and can download stuff as and when I want. Just can't play music in a Playlist if cellular data is turned off.

It's Google Play Music.

Google Play is (as Skakotan has said) the app store for Android devices.

When you intially download a song there is a a downward pointing arrow with a line underneath it- Click this and it will download direct to your device. Once downloaded the symbol will change to a tick with a line underneath it. - This will now mean you can play songs without data.

IIRC certain playlists can't be downloaded. I think this may be due to the rights holders. Can you put up a playlist name so I can try it on Android?

Not sure what is going on really - I just disabled wireless and cellular on my phone and the playlist(s) that she can't play are fine for me. Must be a setting somewhere that is different between us.

I'll try it on my phone and let you know how I get on. From the tick icon it seems that it should play on offline.

Never used the IOS version but on android there is an option to prevent it from streaming and/or downloading music while not on wifi.

I'd be surprised if there isn't a similar option on the IOS version.

Sorry, possibly should have been clearer, I was offering a solution to the "hammering through data allowance" issue.

Maybe for some reason google play is preferring to stream over using the downloaded content (possibly due to some bug).

As for the playlist issue, can't be of any help there.

I downloaded the playlist onto my phone last night and tried it this morning on the way to work without data turned on. It worked fine. Maybe removing it and downloading again may help?
