Not sure if this has been discussed yet??

Why do you have to queue to get on the Currys website? Is it to create a demand that is led by a marketing campaign or genuine? My curiosity has got the better of me and I am waiting in the queue......

I don't even want to buy anything at the moment!

Mike
Because the server might be only able to cope with 100 orders a second and could crash if its something like 500 a second, then you have to get it back online and lose all that potential income.
Servers here could process 100'000 orders a second... ( and thats nothing special ) - ie, it's a load of bks.
Yup. Even a cruddy hosting solution should be able to cope with the load.

For a while today links to Amazon were pulling back bugger all. And they're offering hosting services. So surely any "unavailability" must have been down to marketing. Or at least I'd hope so - otherwise they're doing a crappy job of selling their own services.
My order crashed on the verified by Visa page but I got an email confirmation from Currys seconds later, so happy days!

My mate mentioned Tesco have iPad Mini for 149gbp - I presume this is for an original one?
That'll be John Lewis. Its the iPad Mini 16gb, first gen from what I can see. Not a bad price, but a pretty cruddy bit of kit. I would think that for most people a Nexus 7 or random Android device is a better bet.

Well, well, well...

Argos: "We're currently experiencing a very high volume of visitors to our website"

Tesco Direct: "Sorry for making you wait

Lots of people are shopping with us at the moment and we need to ask you wait briefly. Don't worry, we'll redirect you to the website as quickly as we can.

Thank you for choosing Tesco Direct.

retrying in19seconds...."

John Lewis was down earlier too, I believe...

I went from iPad Mini to iPad Air, can't believe how long I put up with the mini for! I am on Apple everything so Android was a no-no for me.

I still use an original iPad mini on the train everyday and occasionally at home in the evenings, works perfectly.

I also have an iPad air at home.

For me the mini is perfect for travel use.

They all want you to go to the bricks and mortar store to get your bargains, so you buy more stuff while you are there and so you take it away rather than them having to deal with loads of deliveries (and inevitable returns)

I managed to get on the Argos site and reserve-and-collect a PS4 with Little Big Planet 3 and Minecraft for £299.99. Spending over £100 gets you a £10 gift card, so net payment is £289.99. Not bad.

I was after one aswell but didnt stay up to get the reduced price. Ended up getting one of these instead http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00J02XVYG?psc=...

Priced at £63.99 but you get another 20% off at the checkout so ended up £47ish. Only a few left though.
