I'm on an unlimited package so it doesn't really matter but after installing "Peakhour" on my Macbook it looks like I'm using around 5Gb a day!

I do watch a fair bit of catch up and on demand TV but I had no idea my useage was that bad.

What got me started was my Dad asking if I knew why he kept getting messages from BT warning him of approaching his limit (20Gb a month) - seem it doesn't take much Catch up tv to reach that limit pretty quickly.

Anyone else been monitoring their usage and want to share?

I just went to check, but when I follow the link on the "My BT" web page, it just tells me "you don't need to know, because it's unlimited"!

Before reading this thread, I never wanted to know, but not that I do.... irked

Ah, hadn't thought of that. I use Dropbox and one drive a lot.

Maybe that's where a big chunk is going.

Work from home and don't really stream much video stuff. Although I do have a google play access all areas account which is streaming for at least 12 hours a day most days (this alone clocks up 40-50GB/month).

Average month is probably around 120GB downloaded.

Upload on the other hand can vary wildly. I push backups of photos etc... to Amazon S3. One month I clocked up 300GB upload biggrin

Mine's the same.

HD movies (ahem) must use a fair bit.

I probably use 10GB a day working from home then using it for TV related stuff and general browsing.

But it's surprisingly low data rate even at that. 1gig per hour for a 10hr day is what, 250kb/s... it's only double what you'd get back in ISDN days in the late 90's...

I'm not even sure why we have limited/unlimited data as it can't be costing a huge amount to deliver it. A few quid more a month for unlimited and you go from 20GB to 300GB without issue?!

"This month you've used: 355.2GB"

ALL of my media is streamed or similar these days. No sky, no terrestrial TV license. I'd say if I'm in at home my connections usually being used for something and is rarely idle, even if I'm asleep I have a download box that might be working away.

Daily usage can be anywhere between a few GB to 30GB depending on if I'm home or at work or out etc.

I'm not even on fibre, 7.5kbps roughly. Would be fun to see how much if any more I used with fibre.

I also get the you don't need to know message from BT but the girl mentioned I was using about 300gb a month average when I renewed/upgraded a few months back.

I do a lot of streaming via netflix/amazon/spotify work from home (as does my wife on occasion) use steam for my gaming needs and play online racing/shooting gaming. I suspect it's the streaming that uses the majority of the data.

Mine's slowly increased over time but not a lot compared to some. Watch a lot of netflix and amazon prime video these days.

I watch a reasonable amount of TV on the internet, so average about 138gb:

I'm on PlusNet Fibre and the package I signed up to at the time had a 120GB peak time limit. Went over that this last month but now I've moved onto an unlimited package. Time to download some more porn.... biggrin

I'm with Virgin Media and it looks like 20gb a day (student house with 3 students) according to the router. My Windows usage estimates for me 7.5gb a day/450gb over 60 days... Seems rather high but we don't have TV so everything is done through the Internet.

I really shouldn't admit to how much I average.

Suffice to say it leaves the rest of you guys for dust...

Before BT removed the measurement tool it was 1.2Tb/month. Oops.

What on earth do you download for 1.2tb? I guess Blu-ray films weight in at 48GB...

Quite possibly what he said ....

Which begs the question. Are many people on limited download contracts? I don't know anybody in real life on anything other than unlimited.

I'm on mobile broadband, used to be PAYG but now on a thirty-day contract that gives me 10Gb per month. Usually that's enough, but last month I went over by 160Mb and got a surcharge of £16. That's right, more than doubled the monthly charge to go from 10Gb to 10Gb+160Mb.

I'm currently in a discussion about how accurate their "broadband usage" page is - I checked a few days ago and it said I had 744Mb available, so I downloaded the IE11 installer for a new PC and ran it, which downloaded more stuff as part of the installation. After I finished, the checker still said I had 744Mb unused, so I figure it doesn't update very quickly. If they ever reply to my support query I will raise the possibility that this inaccuracy is why I went over last month.
