Not wanting to be bitten by insurance companies that wriggle out of any claim possible.

Where provides decent cover that's reliable or am I better burning my money?

I have had phone insurance from 'Geek Squad' when I took my contract out through Carphone Warehouse. Think I am paying around £12 per month.

I have made two claims with them both for my phone falling out of my pocket onto gravel and smashing the screen, once after a week or so of taking out the policy (Octoberish 2013) and once last month. It was a case of going in and getting my phone 'assessed' via the cashier asking yes/no questions, paying the £50 excess and a new phone being sent to me the next day.

Haven't had a problem with them at all, just a case of remembering to cancel it when I get a new phone!

Dedicated phone insurance from the phone shops is a massive rip off, most home contents insurance policies also cover mobiles, mine does; I can insure my whole house contents for £11:00 per month and this includes my mobile too.

Also many bank accounts have mobile cover too, my wife's does; for £10 per month, as well as coverng 4 household mobiles she also gets breakdown cover and travel insurance too.

I just went with this lot for my Nexus 6 after they were recommended to me by a friend. Cover starts from just over £4 a month for the most basic policy over 12 months.

This ^^^

One thing to consider though is the convenience factor- I got asked routinely by my bank why I was paying £5 a month to Geek Squad for mobile insurance when I was eligible for mobile cover on a joint current account I had at the time.

My response was always that if I had my phone lost/stolen on a night out, I couldn't walk into a branch of my bank on a Sunday morning, pay a small excess charge, and walk out with a brand new handset in under 30mins- something I had done three times over a 5 year period with Carphone Warehouse, once whilst away on a Stag-do at the other end of the country.

I doubt whether it is quite as easy as this now with the very high value phones, but at the time I found the £5 a month was well worth this convenience.

I get it with my Bank, £15 for the whole package/month. When I lost a phone a few years ago they coughed up the replacement very quickly & easily!

Just moved it to our joint account, same £15 covers us both!

I never realised phone handset insurance was that much I just thought it was about a fiver a month. I'd never had it before Virgin gave it me free.

You will get other benefits too; my wife's bank account costs £10 per month, with that she gets up to 4 handsets insured, travel insurance, car breakdown cover and something else.

Another vote for the bank account or contents cover, ours covers most portable things (phones, laptops, etc) for pretty much any event, whether in the house or not, for something like £10-15 a month. Dedicated insurances seem very expensive next to that, although I can't say I've ever lost or damaged a phone somehow.

Yep, probably should have added that bit in!

I must check what the bank insurance scheme offers, and whether it covers faults. My phone is currently covered on my bank account cover.

The advantage of the Carphone Warehouse scheme or others is that it also covers mechanical breakdown and supplies a replacement phone whilst it is being fixed.

Joint account has a capacity for one phone to be insured, which is currently being sent for a new one! The account upgrade for insuring more is quite a bit more per month.

My girlfriend got a selfie stick (I know), decided she'd spin round and round whilst taking a photo. I-phone made contact with wall and smashed the screen to oblivion.

I might be taking out an insurance2go policy next week, any bad experiences about it? I'll need to make sure I see the small print before buying!

Might be worth considering if it's still going at the same price.

I tried all of their online quote links, all of them go to a page for getting a quote for a car! laugh

I'll need to call them in the new year, would be good to have cover for laptop too thumbup

I checked the carphone warehouse insurance, only applies if you've bought the phone for them. Otherwise looks a good policy!

Thanks for all the advice, amy more additions are greatly appreciated. smile
