Anyone know if you can charge the battery in an iphone 4s when it is removed from the phone?

Replaced the battery in son's iphone with a new one but the phone won't boot.

I'd like to charge the new battery fully and then put it in the phone, in case there is some sort of shutdown protection thing going on with the logicboard due to the previous battery getting fully discharged.

Don't think new lipol batteries are shipped with much charge in these days, due to potential fire risk when they are fully charged up.

Ta.

I've had exactly the same problem when fitting a new battery to an iPhone. The new battery won't take a charge as it's so flat. After several false starts, I read on t'internet that a new Li-ion battery sometimes needs a jump-start.

Using a 9v PP3 and a couple of bits of wire and some crocodile clips, I was able to put enough initial charge into the new battery to enable it to take a charge when plugged in. IIRC, the -ve terminal is at the bottom of the battery, but please check yours carefully as my memory may be playing tricks!

OK thanks.

So you pulled back the tape at the bottom of the battery and connected directly to the battery terminals where they are soldered to the charging control board?

How long did you leave the PP3 connected?

I did it with the battery completely out of the phone. Flash the PP3 across it several times for 4-5 seconds, once the phone knows which is Pos & Neg, it should charge.
