anyone running or has run Plex Server on a HP proliant microserver n40L. Plex says it will install but is well below baseline spec.

I simply want to manage 150GB of music and automate media backups from multiple android/windows devices.

Thanks

It should be fine for hosting and streaming music, Plex only needs CPU when re-transcoding video.

iOS works well, so assume Android the same. There's also a web interface. Good bit of software.

I've got a n40l running FreeNAS + plex with about 300GB media with no issues at all. Transcodes fine. Can stream 720p videos to phone connected via VPN over 3G with no issues. (Not tested 1280p but I reckon it would be fine)

Android app works well as does streaming to chromecast.

Just setup a G8 microserver for my Dad with 2TB media thrown at it - again no issues.

IME Android app is better (more stable) than iOS one. Saying that, it could be my iiphone playing up, as I never had problem on iPad. Android, from multiple devices, works perfectly.

I'll be running Plex on an N54L but as a Virtual Machine in VMWare - has anyone noticed any issues with that? I'll be allocating it 3gb of RAM and 1 CPU / 1 Core.

Cheers.
