I think the problem with comparing Android and iPad is that someone could take a premium product and then experience some dodgy £30 Chinese android ebay special cobbled together by an orphan with one finger and then criticise the entire Android range.
that is the primary problem with comparing Apple and the whole cu*t of Jobs that goes with it and alternatives windows is allowed to be installed on anything that reaches the common base standards , ditto android , *nix as a computer OS is still beardy men in sheds / pasty teenage boys in bedrooms territory for the ordinary consumer (unless it's Nextstep with an even nicer skin aka MacOS)

The difference there is that the iPads are built by chinese orphans with two fingers, and then sprinkled with the distilled essence of Steve Jobs, which is what makes them sooo magically awesome. Twice as many fingers, magic dust.

Some entry level Android kit is okay - the original Hudl was a bit cheap and cheerful, but it was surprisingly good. The new one has definitely raised the bar considerably, to the point that it easily rivals some kit costing twice as much (including the iPad).

Depending on your requirements and budget, Windows tablets are getting to be pretty good these days. Windows 8.1 actually works quite well on a touchscreen (it isn't so good without a touchscreen), and devices like the £80 Linx tend to get very positive reviews (even from the tech press).

Probably the right choice for what you are using it for. Be wary of the time which seems to go much quickly with these things, especially with Youtube..
