So I've got a couple of spare, very cheap, Android tablets.

I want them to sit on my desk doing "cool" stuff... Give me inspiration?

How cheap? How cool?
I remember a demo of a couple of them linked up, displaying stuff in a row, was very cool but in the end not much use biggrin

VERY cheap. (They were about £35 a pop IIRC)

VERY Cool, of course.

Adding to the above, Raspberry Pi for a NAS and then the Android as a remote?

If you don't put a MAME emulator app on one of them and build a mini arcade cabinet, I'll be disappointed.

Something like this ...

I have an old tablet pointed at the source of a mystery combi boiler leak that (allegedly) damaged the downstairs flat last month. Plumber says it's all good but I'm a bit twitchy with this sort of thing. I check it occasionally from work. An old android phone would work just as well but I used what was to hand. https://www.cerberusapp.com/ - taking a photo on request is one of it's more simplistic functions. I have it on all my androids.

I admit it's not very cool but it serves a purpose! smile

edit: and this has nothing to do with your desk. Nevermind me.

Not quite office based, but I hooked my web cam up to my tablet with the OTG cable, ran up VLC on the tablet and bled the brakes on my current project sitting in the drivers seat watching the brake bleeder on the tablet. As soon as the bubbles stopped appearing I knew I was done on that corner.

Another car based suggestion is to get a cheap bluetooth OBD II adaptor, and run an app like Torque on the tablet to show diagnostic info, speed, revs etc.

The very definition of "cool".

Practical, but even by 'cool' standards, very much "cool".

Hmm, an extra monitor would be useful, even if it's only 10".

Which app was that?
