I have a 3 year old MacBook Air, which has been brilliant and such a nice change from previous Windows stuff.

As its 3 years old I assume that like anything it may benefit from a "tune up" - theres nothing specifically wrong and as theres no optical drive and the hard drive is a SSD theres no heat being generated or moving parts as such.

Should I just carry on or is it worth popping it in to Apple for a health check and tweak?

Many thanks

dont fix what aint broke. i got a 3yr old macbook too and the one thing i would maybe suggest doing is popping off the back and clearing the dust off the fan. I only did this as i had to replace my trackpad.

having done that it runs the same, only the fan comes on a lot less now.

I just replaced the battery in my 2012 13" Air as it was down to 60% capability, otherwise there's not a lot you can do.

thank you gents.....boring aint they? Just wondered of there was any preventative maintenance....by the way is the battery a DIY job or roughly how much does it cost?

Backing up your files and doing a reinstall won't hurt performance.

New battery on my macbook pro was £99 + £24 labour at the apple store

Got it covered under applecare, but still gave an itemised receipt

I paid €133 for the battery and the two required screwdrivers from ifixit Europe. I did the job following their instructions from the web site and it took 10 minutes. It was a very easy process.
