PS3 help - Restored Default Settings - now won't work!!

My kids have just got a PS4, so I was planning to sell their perfectly good PS3.

Before selling, I decided to "Restore Default Settings" and on the re-start it asked for a controller to be connected via USB cable and press the PS button.

At this point neither of the controllers will connect!

I've tried resetting the controllers, trying different USB cables, trying both USB port,s making sure the controllers are charged, but no luck.

Any ideas what has gone wrong with this PS3?
It was fully functional yesterday....

Have you tried booting it up in safe mode ?

Thanks, I hadn't tried that, but it fails when prompted to connect controller/ press PS

Its sounds like a call to PS support would be your best bet 0843 504 9961.
