I bought a new iPad mini 6 months ago, in the USA, 64 gb, but no 3g, wifi only. It seems to take an age to charge, and also seems to discharge a lot faster than my old iPad, which was the same but just 32 gb.

It is not the latest version, but the iPad 2 I think. $100 cheaper, and a slightly lower quality camera, apparently.

From 2% charge to fully charged takes 5 hours, but reading a book or watching movies it will go flat in about the same time it took to fully charge. Is this normal? I'm sure my old one would last 12 hours or so.

Anybody here ever been sad enough to time how long their mini takes to charge? boxedin

I haven't timed it exactly but my iPad Mini Retina (the 2nd gen mini) takes about 4 hours from flat I think.

If you aren't using the OEM adaptor it could be slower if the adaptor doesn't output as much. The Apple one is 2.1 Amp.

I've tried both the original charger and the one off my phone, both give the same results.

I'm just charging it now, from 5% to 65% took exactly three hours.

I was thinking a few full drain/charges might improve things. I'm not sure if it makes any difference with modern batteries, the old 'battery memory' theory.

My iPad mini gen 1 takes about that time in the standard adaptor. I use one of the big 40w sub multi chargers with about 5 sockets on it to charge all my devices and a power bank. Takes about 1 hour on that

What charger are you using? If it is the small charger, then it is 1A and will take about 9 hours to charge off that.

The larger 2.1 amp charger is about 3-4 hours.

Have a look on the back to see what they are.

Mine is a 1amp jobbie, so I'll have a browse for something bigger, never know when I'll be stuck somewhere between flights with limited charging time.
