This looks interesting, full Windows 8.1 and an Intel processor, if it retains Domain joining capabilities it could be a killer device for my small business customers.

Pricing looks good too smile

the surface has always been a decent machine if a little pricey, but from a business and actual business usability it was unrivalled.

Headline price doesnt seem too bad, but then you have to remember keyboard, windows office - then it starts to look pricey.

Comes with a one year Office 365 subscription included. The Pro 3 is brilliant but a bit pricey compared to an iPad, this levels things up a bit IMO smile

According to the Microsoft blog post they will offer a version with 8.1 Pro, so it can be domain joined at extra cost.

Honestly I'd rather a laptop like the one below for less than half the money.

The surface has always been a business/consumer machine. I'd far sooner carry around a tablet than a laptop, but as people have pointed out its a price to pay.

I'd get full fat office, but then I have a MSDN licence so cost is irrelevant.

Family have 2 Surface RT's and they have proved pretty damn good.

New atom powered surface looks good. about 2.3rds the cost of the i5/128. OK smalelr screen and slower cpu but still good trade off if you dont need the grunt

So is this a full fat Windows version of what would be a Surface RT? A completely different product to the Surface Pro 3?

I'm holding off to see what the Surface Pro 4 brings.

I would need a minimum of a 12" screen (as my key criticism of my original Surface Pro is the small screen) and, although the Surface 3 is "full fat" Windows, it's only got an Atom processor so won't be up to much...

It will be up to 95% of what most people do. Web browsing, light gaming, office etc.

I want a pro 3 with 16gb ram tho...

Oh, it comes with a minimum 64Gb storage, good move.

What is this going to cost in the UK?

You would need the Surface 3 Pro then, available now.

Which, if the rumours are correct, is due to be replaced in the next month or two...

Depends on what you want to do; my W8.1 tablet (Atom Z3740) handles office documents better than my corporate i5 laptop.

For what the majority of people tend to do with laptops and tablets, the latest generations of Atom are more than up to the job.

Nope, too expensive, especially when you add a stylus and keyboard.

Wouldn't surprise me given that MS seem to have started discounting them.

Yup, I'm kind of intrigued by the prospect of Windows10 (which is shaping up well) and a Pro 4.

Yep, the Pro 4 is a definite for Windows 10 with new even more efficient processors. I have a Surface 2 which I like. I think an Intel version is tempting but around £349 would be easier for the man maths.
