I will buy the Apple Watch version 3 when it has a built-in GPS, and storage and bluetooth audio for music.
Why? Your phone does all that. Wireless recharging, a better battery and more efficient power management is probably where it's at.
Because the watch used by itself is far more appealing than taking your phone with you for a run.
I cant believe they didnt include GPS - utterly pointless for excercise without it. Then again, they need something for revision 2 which they held back this time.
I agree!

It's a companion device. If they wanted to make a standalone fitness band, they would have.

It'll get there. The iPhone was pretty close to being a companion device initially.

Batteries - GPS eats batteries

All our tech would be much much better if we could sort out a proper battery...maybe Graphene will do it.

This. GPS is a monster for batteries.

Indeed, in time I don't see why they won't get past this though.

I bought one on release day - kinda looking forward to it. Whilst I appreciate it doesn't do that much more than tell the time, has a st battery life and will be replaced by v2 almost immediately Apple did get lucky when I found out my current watch would cost £680 to be serviced - so buying a new watch seemed much more sensible on the man maths calculator!

Are you posting from the future? Because they're not out yet.

What type of watch is it if £680 was the service bill?
Did it need a few replacement parts?

I'll guess not.

Mine was £750 to service - it's taken apart, oiled and put back together. A decent watch costs rather a lot to have serviced. frown

I've got quite a few mechanical watches, but I've never paid more than £500 for a service (back to Rolex). I've paid more for repairs, but never a basic service.

Interesting idea, and very nicely executed, but being a huge fan of mechanical automatics, I'd rather buy myself another day to day automatic to go with my current Bell & Ross. Lots of interesting new brands out there which appeal more than buying an Apple Watch.....and that's from a die hard Apple fan writing this on a MBP!

Breguet are a little more expensive unfortunately.

My smartwatch 3 lasts a day and a half with the gps always on and I usually just turn it on when going out for a run. This way the watch lasts 2 days. Not having gps is a big miss imo. On a run I'll just take my watch and a bluetooth pair of headphones. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of functionality for light weight.

I asked what type of watch it was for two reasons.

Firstly to see if the price was reasonable for the service.
Secondly because if he has a watch like a Breguet or a Patek Philippe or a Blancpain or whatever, it would be odd if he really is buying an iWatch as an alternative to servicing it.

Your choice of watch isn't entirely relevant to my simple question to another poster.

Yes, it was the Apple Store when I was ordering it.

It's an original Omega Speedmaster - it's a topic for a different thread as it's highly annoying. I had it serviced about 4 years ago when it was passed to me, when it came back it was very hard to wind up which I thought was just part of the course - now I've met someone else with one and the winding mechanism is totally different - and they won't look at it without the 'service' as its gone past 2 years.

My Rolex was about £450 to service.

I love it but I don't wear it any more. I wear the Pebble Steel and will wear the Apple Watch.

I'll probably use the Rolex for social occasions as it will prevent me from responding to Notifications whilst at them. This is a good thing when trying to be polite.

Totally OT. But if anyone wants a service on a watch they should speak with Joe (Username - Vario on PH). Has a watch shop. He serviced my Rolex for a fraction of the price a dealer was going to charge me!

Unofficially of course wink As he's not a Rolex dealer, but a bloody nice chappy, all dealt with via the post in a timely manner.

Thanks - it's annoying knowing that it's a simple fix that shouldn't have occurred in the first place. Very happy to use an independent vs 'official'.
