Notifications to the wrist are damn handy. I can triage my messages at the wrist, deciding what's urgent enough to get the phone out of my pocket and type a reply and what can wait until I get home/to my desk so that I can use a Mac to respond instead. The messages are dealt with universally so it doesn't matter if it's a Text, iMessage, Email, Facebook whatever. I don't get a surfeit of messages that would render this useless so it works well for me. If you got hundreds of emails a day this would be useless - but so is getting hundreds of emails. You can't even read them let alone respond... So for me the notifications work - and they work anywhere: at my desk, travelling, driving, everywhere. This is my main usage of the watch.

I use Misfit - it tracks my activity. Fun and has let me know that I need loads more exercise.

Amazingly I have answered the phone with my Pebble! It can tell the phone to pick up - but it doesn't have a microphone so you still need to get the phone out of your bag: this is less than ideal so it's a reason for an upgrade. The remote answer is handy when connected to a hands-free though and this is the scenario I've used that in.

I have played with other applications but I find the replication of maps (Pebble GPS) a bit deficient. Viewranger promise that their navigation app will replicate directions from your phone to the Watch screen. I already use Viewranger for navigation in the hills: the Watch should allow me to keep my hands free more often - handy when scrambling.

The point to note is that, in common with all smartwatches, Apple Watch is NOT a Watch! Who cares if it can tell the time!

Pretty much my view, I want toy that does stuff, included in that will be a watch but as I do not use a personal mobile, I want one that is not dependent on a mobile (whatever make it is). Give it a few years.

Need a 5th option for "No plans to get one". I don't think they are a stupid idea, I'm just not interested in having one. Wearable tech or even bio-integrated tech will become increasingly common over the coming years, but I'm not going to be rushing to join in yet, the benefits don't justify the cost (both monetary and philosophical for me).

All you need for that to work is a smartphone. But it is super Dick Tracy if it can arrive at your wrist. It's handier too as you can decide if it's worth paying more attention to quickly or not.

Also handy when driving and a message comes through - so much easier and 'legal' to glance at your wrist to see the message. Then you can pull over and stop if it requires attention.

Not so convinced on battery life of the Watch - they say 18 hours, but guess you'll be lucky to get 12 in reality, we shall see. Won't be trading in my Pebble Steel with 6 days that I get, that's for sure!

I suspect that's a legal point that will need to be proven in law one way or the other. It's quite possible that, as an extension of your phone, it would be classed as using the phone itself.

It really should tickle my nerd neuron, but it just doesn't. Maybe it is just the hipster thing, or the SUPEREXCITED over the top presentation of it all that's putting me off, but it just doesn't seem that good. Kinda like 3D printers - the thingyness of it all is amazing, but the technology just isn't quite there yet.

As I mentioned a few posts earlier, my girlfriend really wants to buy the iWatch as soon as possible, but I have had to 'manage her expectations' with regards to the battery life.

Apple says 18 hours, and I think we can assume that means 18 hours of not using it or touching it in any way. My iPhone 6 is supposed to last 'Up to 10 days on standby and up to 10 hours of 3G internet browsing' but the reality is that it is flat by 5pm each day after being taken off charge at 8am.

So let's be generous and say that realistically the watch has a battery life of 12 hours by the time you have used it here and there.

You put in on at 8am and by 8pm it's finished.

You can imagine joining your friends for a drink in the evening and having to explain that you would love to show them the new iWatch on your wrist, but, erm, the battery has already ran out and you have only had it off charge since 8am. Pretty embarrassing.

A I said earlier, I own many Apple products and love the brand, but I fear the battery life issue will make a joke out of the watch
