Oh so that's why you always laud their gear as the second coming. I always thought you were a bit thick but you're actually a lot smarter than I gave you credit!
Good man biggrin.

They're going for a huge premium now frown
Really? How much of a premium. I was going to return mine to apple buy haven't got around to it yet. Or is the premium price for boxed ones that haven't been work for a couple of weeks?

With all of that though - the local Apple store is still got queues (lines as they say in the US) to get in to take a look at the watch!!!! Bloody weeks after launch and pre-order and they still have them lining up outside to buy them. Don't get me wrong, not everyone buys one, but they can't make enough and they are sell, and selling VERY well. How long term? Thats the question, but at the moment its a hit.
Nobody is queuing up at stores to buy them because they are only for sale online at the moment. The queues are probably people just wanting to try the demo units on.
Picky

hehe

At my local Apple store (and others in the area), they are enforcing appointments on busy days to "see" the Watch. You can try it on, take a look at the different models etc. You can't purchase one there and then, but you can place an order online (they have computers setup for you to do this) and place an order online. There is no stock in the store itself, but this was the case from launch. So no, they aren't lining up to buy and take away, but they are lining up to take a look and many are then going ahead to buy online and get a delivery from there.

I will get one just because I am curious and I bought every new Iphone since the 3G. If it will be successful I think it will evolve in much improved new generations.

I was thinking of selling mine as I could easily get £250 more than I paid for it, but I like it too much. Got some straps ordered, cancelled my Pebble Time Steel order, selling up a bunch of the rest of my watch collection...

I've had a smart watch for a year (Moto360) and you do get used to checking messages and doing basic tasks on it. I don't wear a normal watch anymore. If I do I really miss it. Its like not having your phone with you.

I do laugh at all the iWatch stuff when Apple are 2 years late to this party. Better late than never iGuess

As many, many people have said before on this forum, Apple is rarely the first in any given product line.

If the figures are to be believed, Apple sold more Watches on the first day of pre-orders than all Android Wear devices for the whole year. That's good for the smartwatch market, hopefully the more people have them then the more people will want them, and thus the products will get better for everyone.

Yep, what Apple tend to do is spot a market that has potential, but needs a killer product to really exploit that potential.
They've been doing it since the Apple ][, it's not a new business model for them!

The problem is, the Apple watch doesn't look like it's that product. When the iPhone came out, it wasn't the first full screen touchscreen smartphone, but the interface was fresh and slick.
From what I've seen from the Apple watch, it looks like Android Gear and doesn't look like it works better in any way.
The only thing convincing people is the Apple logo, not the product itself.

The sales figures are more due to the company rather than the product IMO. I hope that it makes all smartwatches better but it does absolutely nothing new compared to the competition.

It won't make anything better - for the very reason you mention. They dominate the market and use fashion rather than function as their major selling point these days. Apple, as has been said elsewhere, now sell stuff - not innovative stuff.

I'd argue that after some fairly big advances Apple are in the same position as many companies, now making smaller incremental improvements and innovations.

What the Apple watch does provide is a very consistent platform for application developers to innovate and a easy route to market for a large audice of consumers who aren't interetsed in the technology behind it. Pretty similar to the automotive industry in some ways - in the 1950's a much larger proportion of the population could perform basic maintainance and repair tasks, now the dealer just plugs in a laptop.

I never had any intention of looking at Smart Watches. That is until someone gifted me a Pebble Steel...

It appears to be a very basic smart watch in the grand scheme of things and I've always been a firm believer that watches are a man's only (aside from wedding rings) acceptable jewellery.

Still, I gave it a chance.

I wore it last week for a few days connected up to my iPhone and I've completely changed my opinion. Don't get me wrong, it'll never become my 'go to' watch or indeed something I wear on a daily basis but it's already been quite useful (or maybe I've tried to make it useful?) in a few instances.

Meetings being the place... it got me through a long and boring meeting this morning where my role was minimal, I kept up with a Whatsapp conversation and know what's happening at the weekend, and knew about a call I really needed to excuse myself from the meeting for without people noticing I was checking my phone.

I don't know how I'd find a watch which allowed you input, i.e. I don't think I'd ever find myself talking into it or looking at photos but as something that alerts me as to whether I need to bother getting my phone out of my pocket it works quite well. Spam email comes through and I know the phone can stay in my bag or my jacket pocket on the back of my chair etc.

The sat nav app will stop me looking too much like a plank in London when I'm not sure where I'm going I suppose.

I won't be buying an Apple Watch but this will be staying in my glove compartment for those boring meetings.

I must admit that my Moto 360 watch is as 'vital' as my smartphone. I really miss it now. I can see this potentially having a huge effect on the overall market place for watches.

Unfortunately, frequently checking your watch - even just for the time - can be seen as pretty rude, implying that you've got somewhere more important to be. That may tone down in a year or so, when it will be no ruder than continually checking your phone in a meeting...

Have to agree that the wrist vibration on my fenix is very handy for incoming call notifications, though.
