How bad is the performance of these things likely to be? 1.3ghz seems to be the top spec, but it's a M Core? Has anyone experienced this processor before?

Do I remember Tim Cook saying they'll be on display in the Apple Stores before the launch day? Anyone know when I can go and 'try' one out in the stores?

Cheers all

I suppose it depends on how you are planning on using it. The fan-less processor may be a bit weak but it does have quick SSD and 8GB of memory so for most people it will be more than enough as their primary laptop. If you are planning on using more heavy duty applications then a MBP might be more suitable.

presume you mean the new Air? I have heard that it's basically an iPad with a keyboard... the MBP is a 'proper' laptop.

I think it was the watch that was getting into the stores before the launch date now I think back.

It has been described as many as an expensive iPad Air with a keyboard.

The lack of a normal USB port is simply ridiculous.

You are wrong. The air and pro retina had spec umps after the last event, so at least for the short term all three are in the range together.

just checked and yes, it seems you're right. Weirdly the MacBook is the smallest, and the Air is larger. I thought the "Air" brand was meant to signify the lighter weight option.

It does have a USB port just a different type to what we are used too. Expect more laptops coming out this year with it especially to replace power supplies.

Seen some report that these are about on par with a 2011 MacBook Air with the i7 processor. But with better gpu. Surely that's enough for what it's going to be used for. You won't be buying one for 4k video editing.

Sure seems expensive for what it is though.

A Kia Sorrento will get you to the same places as a Bentley, for sure. If you only look at the concept of transport, the latter would see expensive too.

But it's not a Bentley...It's a netbook with a 12 inch screen, 1 port, 480p camera and a mobile processor. If it was a car, it would be closer to a Kia while charging Bentley money.

Depends on what you're comparing it to. It's expensive compared to a netbook with a poor, low-res screen and a 32/64Gb SSD. Compared to something similar like a Dell XPS 13 with their QHD Screen the difference seems to be about 10%. Better processor on the Dell, but smaller chassis on the MacBook. You also get OSX rather than windows, which is a positive or negative depending on what camp you're in.
