Oddly I saw a report about someone exploding themselves with one of these a couple of weeks ago but EE stayed silent, it's taken them a while to bring this to the public eye.

Not all of them are affected. The dodgy ones are labelled as Model No: E1-06.

I've just checked mine and it's labelled E1-01.

Or EE were conducting tests to see if it was a one off perhaps?

Mine is also 01 so it's ok.

The time taken from EE acknowledging the fault and to issuing the announcement yesterday was due to the specific faults being investigated by a renowned electrical safety company in Sweden, and the identification of the faulty production components, and associated production batch.
st happens unfortunately in electronics - I've been in the industry for over 20 years now, but EE's response is professional on this.
and a £20 voucher on accessories to all that have to have them returned / swapped out isn't such a bad thing...

Indeed, good response from EE. I'm hoping I've got a deadly one now.

Too many terms and conditions. Remembering to take it back in 18 months is a PITA. The exploding ones on the news and the recall prompted me to return mine. I don't give a st about charging phone battery that much.

Assuming it isn't a load of "Save £2 when you buy a £10 phone case" (ie you have to spend money and they still make profit).

Oh how annoying; I use mine regularly. I did notice a different brand battery pack in their accessory store, if they're giving out £20 vouchers still then could flip to that one (assuming that one's safe...)

ps; I wonder if this tweet triggers the latest recall given the date of it:
