I maybe spending some time in hospital would like to get an MP3/4 player to pass the time. I don't need a phone, would prefer to steer clear of Apple as I don't want to be tied to iTunes (but if I have to I will). Also would like a good Gb of storage so I can put all my CDs onto it and a good battery life .
Suggestions Please

Sony do a good player. I have an older NWZ-X1060 - there is a 'B' version available used on Amazon here for £218. This is 32GB

Whats your budget?

ETA - clearly your not wanting a tablet, so what kind of size are you looking at pocket size?

A colleague has a Sony MW-ZX2. Long life battery and 128GB of storage. Seems to be really good.

Yes was looking at pocket size, so tablet is too big tbh, doesn't matter if it connects to interweb, as long as I can load CD's and DVD's to it. price wise I was looking around £200

What about a portable DVD player, and all your DVDs in a CD holder?

Cheaper and potentially easier?

Good thinking, Tech has moved on a bit since I last had an MP3 player, I used to have a Creative and it was great. the portable DVD player may be a good way to go around £50 from Argos
Its a bit depressing to see how Apple have the market wrapped up, it may end up being an Apple iPod touch 64GB for just under £250

Sony, Cowon, iBasso and Fiio all make really great sounding players at reasonable prices.

I know that you didn't want a phone but I have a nokia 735 and it would be ideal, pocket size, hd screen, plays films off the micro SD card, can be used as a music player.

It will work as a tablet if it has no sim card in it, ie all functionality except calls/3g/4g.

I can greatly recommend the "Sandisk Sansa Clip".

  • Great sound
  • Pretty damn cheap
  • Great battery life, rechargeable through USB
  • Drag and drop usb (no 3rd party software)
  • Takes micro SD cards, so very cheap to get loads of storage (32GB/card)

If you're not convinced, look on the internet, I haven't found a single bad review.
Ours is doing great after years of abuse as well.

Had one for years and used it for the gym. It has taken a beating but still sounds good and works well. A lot for a pittance of an outlay.

Forgot to add: it has built-in FM radio as well.

I have a 20GB Sony MP3 player that you can have if you'd like. Let me know if you want it and I can get it in the post on Monday morning.

£59!? That looks great for the money. If I didn't already have a Dell Windows tablet I would buy that with my Clubcard points.

I know! How about a spare for holiday that you don't mind getting sand in?

It's tempting and I do have some Clubcard points I could use to buy it.
