The upgrade for the laptop (W7) is downloading now. For anyone who doesn't want to wait, MS have issued ISO or USB format downloads

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/...

This link downloads a "creation tool" which asks what you want to do - USB/ISO and then downloads it.
Thanks for the link.
Do you not need a product code though ?
Or does it just auto install it as it thinks "hey its got the free upgrade setting"
if you understand me lol

It's automatically upgraded my W7 laptop, my impression is that it reads the existing licence code, I haven't entered anything.

For some reason the current upgrade download appears to work only if you already have W7 or W8 installed, it does the upgrade, registers with MS and then carries on. Most folks would like a clean install and I *think* that's why they have provided this ISO/USB version. My plan is to let it do the upgrade on W7, register with MS and presumably get a new key, then replace the drive with a new one and try a new install using the new key.

If you have anything before W7 then you're out of luck, it won't work. Or at least that's what they're saying. OTOH, you could always sign up as a Windows Insider and get free versions of W10Pro ad infinitum.

Edit to add - this page seems to confirm what happens with old/new licences

downloading ISO now. Doing 1% every 2 seconds, on 100Mb here.

Going to install on a virtual and see if I can get my W7 key to work, if so, will rebuild laptop.

Mine started downloading at 08:12 - finished at 08:32.

Now to find the time to install it.

(Virgin cable 152Mbps BTW)

I think mine's broken. Still at 0% and it won't cancel.

That's it... Windows 10 is rubbish!

You should write that as an Amazon product review. (And demand your money back)

I've been downloading this since 08:00 and I'm at 13% tumbleweed

It's not my connection, obviously a very popular download and I'm not connected to a very good server.

all done, no issues so far, took about 50 mins on a Surface 3 Pro, process was completely hands off. The only slightly scary bit was at the very end where it updates all your apps - guess I had a lot installed! "Its taking a bit longer than usual, but it should be ready soon"

Well, it's installed. And it kindly threw all my email accounts in the bin, both my MS account and my main email account. Thanks for that.

Well, my laptop Windows 7 key wont work as an clean install. So I've decided to do my desktop (dell OEM), seems to be working, just rebooting currently.

Will do my other desktop once I've played with the Dell.

Has anyone got it on a phone yet? My nokia 735 has said nothing about it I don't think, ive had a few messages through outlook about stuff but not windows 10.

Also is anyone using it on a touchscreen tablet? can you now use a mouse on the device? has it fixed any of the issues with windows 8.1 on a touchscreen device (their are many issues)

This is exactly what I was talking about earlier in the thread, how it would work for those wanting to do a fresh install. The answer is you can't?

I just did a clean install of Win8 two days ago so I'll just upgrade I think.

Only avaiable for the phone in beta, probably another couple of months till full version is available.

I have two machines running the install from the media creation tool - they started at the same time, one on 95% and the other on 9%?! Odd.
