...Just noticed that on the Windows 8.1 laptop I'm using at the moment, it's downloading in the background, currently at 5%.
Where does that show up?

Just to add insult to injury, it won't activate either, going from Win 7 Pro x64 to Win 10 Pro x64 with a genuine key.
Same here, that was using an ISO install. I'm now trying an in-place upgrade instead with the same product key

Has anyone got it on a phone yet? My nokia 735 has said nothing about it I don't think, ive had a few messages through outlook about stuff but not windows 10.

Also is anyone using it on a touchscreen tablet? can you now use a mouse on the device? has it fixed any of the issues with windows 8.1 on a touchscreen device (their are many issues)
Same here. My 735 hasn't said anything. Will try my Asus T100 later to see if it will update. Will be chuffed if it does as I was contemplating selling it.

A word of warning for those of us who jumped the queue and used the upgrade tool thing linked above, this is for a paid for copy, not an upgrade. If you want to get a free upgrade from 7, 8 to 10 then you have to wait for the tray icon to tell you when the upgrade is ready for you to download, I have no choice but to reinstall 7 and wait for the icon notification or pay to keep my existing Win 10 installation. I probably should have read up a bit more. Oh, and it's crashed again anyway 👎🏻

Window appeared after I decided to go ahead and install it. That was this morning, I'm now exploring the new UI - seems OK so far but we don't have any Windows touch screens in the house and it's obviously designed for that.

I've just upgraded* my Surface Pro 3 from 8.1 to 10. Went quickly and smoothly but oddly enough I now miss the tile based Metro interface.

That's just wrong. paperbag

* Time will tell whether it's actually an 'Upgrade' or not...

In one of the technical evaluations, you could change the start menu to the Windows 8.1 tiles. Then the next evaluation came along and I forgot how to do it. Does that exist now or did they do away with it? I'm gonna have a go with it on my spare PC

Hang on though - didn't the download offer the option to upgrade the existing install as well as burn to disc?

Can you now use a mouse? does the mouse point appear when you plug in a mouse?

It did. It gave the option of "Upgrade this PC" so that's what I did. It must have upgraded it otherwise it would have prompted for a key, which it did not do.

Installed first thing this morning on my laptop with no dramas, followed on screen instructions and it was seamless. Hasn't crashed at all yet either. Quite liking it so far.

My understanding is that you have to do the "in place" upgrade first as this will then tie the installation to an MS account. Once you have done that, then you can do a complete install.

Note

If you upgraded to Windows 10 on this PC by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer and successfully activated Windows 10 on this PC in the past, you won't have a Windows 10 product key, and you can skip the product key page by selecting the Skip button. Your PC will activate online automatically so long as the same edition of Windows 10 was successfully activated on this PC by using the free Windows 10 upgrade offer.

Just finished the update from 8.1 Pro (with Media Player) to Win10 Pro

I used the link posted a couple of pages back. Only hiccup that I had was that when the PC restarted for the first time it just sat at the 'Restarting' screen with the spinning icon. So after about 10mins a just held the power button in to turn it off. Then powered on and it went through the upgrade.

No sign that it hasn't been activated.

Only thing that I've noticed is that my copy of Norton Internet Security has vanished, not sure that that is a bad thing anyway.

I did the upgrade rather than clean install, the MS employee was adamant that only people that upgraded through the icon would get a free upgrade. People like me that used the upgrade tool were effectively buying the product, hence the non activation. I'm currently rolling back to 7, 10 is crashing for fun, it would appear to dislike my PC immensely.

Just spotted Glen's post, that would all make sense. Unfortunately for whatever reason my work PC never gave me the upgrade icon, hence I jumped at the upgrade tool instead. I think my work PC has some kind of policy on it to perhaps block anybody attempting a Win 10 upgrade. My home PC has the icon and I'm assuming will happily transfer the licence from 8.1 to 10. That'll teach me to fiddle with stuff I know nothing about!

Just turned on the bluetooth mouse I had paired before the upgrade and it picked it up straight away. Pointer showing properly too. Not tried with a USB one.

The elephant in the room;

when does 'this PC' stop being 'this PC'?

How many components can I upgrade before MS go "This isn't the same PC, sorry, no dice!"

If you want to upgrade your mobo and CPU, where does that leave you regards activating Win10?

Would it depend on whether it's an OEM key originally? My W7U isn't but my laptop's W8.1 is. I would expect to be able to port the W7U upgraded to WX to any machine and not the laptop one.
