Check your Windows updates if you don't have the notification. I believe you only get this notification after a particular Windows update installs and you give it a reboot.

It must be a staged roll-out or something. Both my W8.1 desktops are up to date but no notification yet. Just have to be patient I guess.

Has there been any pricing released for Windows 8.1 Enterprise?

I've had a Google but haven't been able to find anything

We got the notification on our PCs at work yesterday but I've looked at my W8.1 lap top tonight and cannot see anything.
Where should I be looking please?

Apparently, too many programmers wrote code line "If version like '9*' then..." to identify Win95/98. Not sure how true that is...
They realised it would be a gift to German stand-up comedians. "Windows? Nein..."

Microsoft's plan to generate 'want' is working though!

I'm still very much in two minds as to whether I'll take the upgrade. Might pop the laptop onto a Pro key like the PC so I stay in charge of updates, but if the Bluetooth issue isn't solved first I'll stick with 8.1.

I dont like 8.1 so I'll be going to 10. I just wish I already had a Pro install, but I aren't paying £110 for the privilege. Hopefully Microsoft will do some discounts at some point!

Install Classic Shell, it makes 8.1 usable!

Ditto. Gamma test. biggrin

Will it work on a mediocre machine or will I have to upgrade? Will it run on a machine that currently runs XP?
It is supposed to work on a phone with 512MB, so it should work on almost anything. That said, "drivers" as in "lack of" may stop play.
Thanks. I'm slightly concerned that it'll be st and I can't go back. You know the old adage, if it ain't broke...

7 wasn't broke in UI terms, 8.1 is. A very good OS spoiled by an unsuitable UI for desktops IMO...

If I do it I'll be taking a clone of the disk first so I can roll back if needs be.

read an article that states you will be allowed to activate Windows 10 with a Windows 7 key so you will be able to download the ISO and use your existing key to activate (you wouldn't be able to use it to activate Windows 7 again obviously).
How would that work? If I upgrade to 10, decide I don't like it, and rebuild my PC with my Win7 disk will MS's servers have somehow locked my product key to Win10 so can't be used to activate my Win7 install?

Utter bks. How much proprietary software from them days is still in circulation?!
True but who's to say loads of developers (maybe even MS internal staff) haven't got routines at the start of their apps similar to:

if windows.version = "Windows 9*" then; dialog(Sorry this app doesn't work on Windows 9x) ; exit()

That would render all these apps useless on a Windows 9 machine without patching.

I got an email overnight after registering a Win7 machine and it says it'll be available on 29th July - so plenty of time yet.
