Windows 10 upgrade notification

Then windows update re-downloads it and activates it again. I could hide it but I think my system is past that anyhow, windows 10 upgrade itself is in WU
No no no... CONTROL PANEL > WINDOWS UPDATE > SETTINGS > change 'important updates' to 'check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them' > uncheck 'recommended updates' > uncheck 'microsoft update'. Job done.

So I have to pretty much make windows update useless to avoid this? I dont want to have to decide on which updates to install all the time. This should never have been an 'important update'.CONTROL PANEL > WINDOWS UPDATE > SETTINGS > change 'important updates' to 'check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them' > uncheck 'recommended updates' > uncheck 'microsoft update'. How is it making windows update "useless" ? The notification pops in your icon tray when there are new updates, you quickly skeg a look at what they are and choose whether to download and install them or not. It's a 5 second exercise. If the KB3035583 re-appears then you can uncheck that one and it will ask you if don't want it to tell you about it again, at which point you select yes and that's the last you'll see of it.
FYI I uninstalled the W10 notification update 4 days ago and it hasn't sent it back down to install again and I have no icon about it either so seems to be working fine to me.

Another article about Windows spying on the user:-

Cheers for that, since Cortana seems a bit naff (anyone finding it useful at all?) I've disabled pretty much all the privacy options suggested on there.http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/07/30/windows...
Also since one of machines has been running Windows 10 since earlier this year it was still in the Insider/Technical Preview mode meaning full diagnostic/usage information was being sent to Microsoft I've disabled this from Windows Update settings now.
Not that it'll make much difference anyway since they probably know about myself than I do after all the years of using Windows/Microsoft accounts etc.
OK I've been using it for a couple of days now and, well, it's alright but I'm still considering going back to 7. 10 just feels, I dunno, lightweight? Steam wouldn't work right until I uninstalled it and reinstalled. TeamSpeak has done a funny thing with my mic so people can't hear me properly as well.

Apps not working 100% reliably isn't something that would worry me in the short-term - I'd expect them to be fixed in the next update to them. No issues with Steam for me though nor any of my software. If it's still flaky in a month's time then it's a sign of issues IMO - saying that software vendors have had a while to get stuff working properly on 10.
Had a recurrence of my USB failing on boot. 99% certain it's a windows issue and not the mobo/bios. Took a couple of restarts until it worked and Google isn't throwing up others having the issue. Meh.

If you do the custom install not the default you can opt out if sending data to Microsoft.
Plenty of evidence now that w10 talks to MS servers regardless of what settings you have on or off.As well has havesting/stealing/creeping on all my data etc. etc. I'd like think there were also other reasons of the 'free' upgrade.
- Windows 7 becoming the next Windows XP, given that people didn't take kindly to Windows 8, meaning lots sticking with Windows 7 and Microsoft being forced to keep updating it without getting any additional revenue otherwise they'll get accused of forced obsolescence/being evil etc. At least this time Microsoft can turn around and say they did offer the free upgrade to Windows 10, so it's the users fault.
- OEMs/Business will still have to pay for Windows 10 licenses?
- Encourage more people to use it's App store which will Microsoft will profit from as Google/Apple do from their respective stores. As it gets more popular developers will be more inclined to add their applications to it further increasing popularity and Microsofts profits. Microsoft will be in a better position to control/vet the software/apps for security reasons, rather than having people search on google for a random bit of software and running "Not_a_virus.exe" or something, mindlessly give it admin rights then blaming Windows/Microsoft/Bill Gates for the resulting havoc.

It does make me chuckle all the press about Microsoft recording data. Presumably a huge number of the people up in arms about this are reading it from an Android device which allows Google to basically know everything about you, but it's OK, because it's google?

"with some suggesting Microsoft could block uncertified PCs or even stop you using an illegally-modified Xbox One controller"Wtf is an 'illegally modified' XBone controller?
Specifically, what law has been broken?
Or are they using the word 'illegally' here in the sense of 'MS don't like you doing that despite having no authority to stop you' and no laws have actually been broken?

No it doesn't - at least not non-MS stuff:http://hexus.net/tech/news/software/85610-windows-...

Quick one on the N7, you need to clear the partition cache (different to the app cache). There are tutorials online how to do it. It's easy.
I've had to do mine and now it flies again.
But I know what you mean with Win10.../
I tried clearing the parition cache on the nexus 7 when i started getting problems. Unfortunately it had no noticeable effect. I think i tried it a second and third time, but again same result. After a few months I gave up and bought a new tablet!I've had to do mine and now it flies again.

So. I've worked in IT all my life - so computers having glitches is just so much "same old, same old".
Saying that I am LOVING Windows 10. I'm running it on a laptop (work) and a tablet (home). Great UI. Huge improvement on Win8/8.1. Familiar enough for corporates to roll out.
It's a tad slower than Windows 8.1 on the tablet. I think this is because it has a hybrid drive rather than an SSD. With a SSD and an i7 it flies along nicely. It's clearly been written for newer hardware so if you have some old thing with Win7 on it I'd stick with Win7 if it does what you need.
If you've recently upgraded hardware or want to it's a no brainer.
I'm thinking of getting the Surface Pro 4. Should run beautifully on that. And one of those is all the computer you could need for the vast majority of people.

OK, I've installed W10 over the top of W7 using the WhatEverItsCalled popup in my Win7 systray.
All seems OK so far, but what happens in the future if/when I want to do do a clean install of Win10? Is there an iso image I'll be able to download? Will my old W7 license key work with that?
Any one know?
Thanks.
