Hi

First make sure this update is installed on windows 8:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2871389

Reboot

Then go to the windows store in the apps thing and click on the upgade to windows 8.1 thingey. If it fails re do it several times (mine did and on one machine needed several tries).
That takes ages to do ranging from an hour to several

Spotted something last night. You can configure the lock screen to show info from certain installed apps, so I set the main one to be weather, then configured the weather app so it has my correct location etc. It still doesn't appear on the lock screen though. Am I missing something?
Works for me...

I don't think I've done anything unusual...
Same (upgrade from 7):

I wonder if it's something that depends on some of the questionable privacy settings that I disabled pretty much all of then.

Anyone struggling with embedded flash not working on Windows 10?

Wife's HP lappy will no longer play Flash video (green screen). BBC news website is a good example of a site no longer playing.

All worked well on Windows 8.1.

I get this sometimes, but even used to happen on 8.1. I usually have to restart the browser or reboot the machine if that doesn't work.

Are you using the new fangled half-browser WIP that is Edge, IE 11 or something else like chrome?

It is an embedded flash issue, so affects all browsers; same in Edge, IE11 and Firefox.

There's a move to kill off Flash and move to HTML5, so browers are blocking Flash if you don't have the very latest version installed due to the endless security issues with Flash and that it's a resource hog.

Chrome, Edge etc have a built in wrapper to play flash without the need for the Adobe player, but if you're running IE or Firefox then the block is due to your browser detecting you don't have the latest version and blocking it.

Trust me, it is not a block on an outdated version of Flash, it is flash being st. You can hear the audio most of the time, the video is just green. Mainly happens when low on memory.

Ah right, not the same then.

Same problem regardless of the browser?

This MS support article describes the problem my wife's lappy has - and suggests that it is happening to a few devices.

Just to update, my Flash woes were sorted by;

1. Removing the Catalyst Control Centre

2. Downloading the Windows 8.1 64-bit driver, extracting the distribution, but not installing the full package.

3. Uninstalling the video driver and manually installing the driver at point 2.

This sorted Edge for running Flash.

4. To get Flash running in Firefox, downloaded the Flash player as usual.

BBC news website video now playing nicely for The Guv'nor. Phew.

That first update I alluded to is important as it needs to be installed to enable win 8.1

YOU GET win 8.1 by finding the apps tile on the start menu clicking it then clicking on the Update to 8.1 "tile"
NOT via the windows update option

The windows 8.1 update thing looks like this in the apps option:

You then just click on it and it err installs though sometimes it needs a few clicks

My wife's tablet (Linx 10) has now been updated to Win 10 but the inbuilt mail app only shows her mail back to 29 July 2015 (Win 10 day?). To see older emails she has to go to the web version of her email (outlook.com) and log in. Is there any way to get the older emails showing on the built in app prior to 29 July?
