They should just force the upgrade and be done with it, imo.
Obvious shill is obvious.

What part of 'No thanks to Windows 10' does Microsoft not understand? None apparently, as it continues with its aggressive and constant harassment of users with earlier versions of Windows.

Windows 10 is nothing but malware as it altered privacy settings set during the installation process without notifying and without the consent of users, and it also deleted programs such as Spybot and CCleaner, again without the consent of users.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/11/26/microsoft_...

It also installed itself on my SSD without asking and began using my internet connection as a P2P node.

Thankfully with GWX, I've now deleted the install and recovered 5.8Gb of storage.

Windows 10 may be free but the price of admission is way too high for me, I'll be sticking with Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Balls to that.

I'm a big Win10 fan - on my desktop.

But on my Surface3, it's bobbins in comparison to Win8.1, I updated as soon as possible, and roleld back within a few days. Windows10 needs a lot more touch development before I update to Windows10
I have a Surface pro 3, and now I am used to it Windows 10 is way better than 8.1.

Forever?

You're going to have to move to something at some time, have you a plan or are you just hoping that Microsoft are going make something more acceptable one day?

Have swipe gestures been re-introduced into EDGE?
Has the all apps menu been made easier to navigate with your finger, the tiny scrolling list is a complete ball ache.
Has the Android style menu bar at the bottom in tablet mode been revised? (way too easy to accidentially press the back/home buttons).
Has split screen mode been fixed? it was a royal PITA to get this working on the initial rollout build of Win10

AIUI none of these have been resolved with the threshold update, so I'm sticking with Win8.1 for now.

I don't use swipe features in edge. No issues with using my fat fingers.

Split screen is fine, I have never hit the buttons at the bottom of the screen by mistake and I mainly use mine in tablet mode

10 is more stable, faster, better with the surface pen than 8.1 etc

I'm sticking with 8.1 and if MS try any sneaky tactics I'll be installing some flavour of Linux.

Mint is the one with a flavour, the rest are tasteless.

I have Ubuntu on one laptop, win 10 is better and faster and works with more stuff

Upgraded twice, and downgraded twice, 10 didn't recognise my DVD drive.

I've had an odd but persistent problem.

I can't run either of my scanners from Photoshop 7 or PhotoPlus 8. I've tried reinstalling both but with no change. PaintShopPro 7 refuses to open.

I've downloaded new drivers but they made no difference.

I have to run the scanners independently, save to file and then open in the programme. Irritating but not a disaster.

Simple solution is to upgrade to Windows 10, it's much better than 7. [/url]
Once bitten I am afraid. Having had W8 I want no part of their new OS right now. It may be fantastic and give blowjobs, but I just don't care.

The thing is, everyone else doesn't care too. Which is why MS pushes W10 adware with updates. They want everyone to get 10 so that they forget about 8 and don't think Microsoft is a bunch of idiots. Except everyone does think that way and the W10 nag messages just endorse that viewpoint.

wtf? Install the legacy driver in compatibility mode, or buy a new dvd drive for £10 biggrin
It was the drive built in to the PC, assuming you thought mine was stand alone, I am not that PC literate, then again for what I do on my PC probably not missing much staying on 7, not even sure what compatibility mode is, doh......

Thanks anyway.

Do I use the DVD/CD drive. YES

Did I see any advantage in using Windows 10. NO

Is it worth sticking with 10 and buying another external gizmo. NO

Should my drive work with 10. YES.

Did it work. NO.

Answer, stick with Windows 7. All I use the PC for is emails, word, the odd web page, this one including, sorted.

I am sure there are advantages to be had using 10, but not that really bother me. Most of my key tapping is done on the I-Pad

Any tablet users who upgraded from Windows 8.1 to 10? Any benefits after doing the upgrade?

I don't blame you, one of the (very few admittedly) headaches I had with windows 10 was getting it to use a driver for a PCI Wifi card. Disabling driver enforcement would only work until the machine was rebooted, then I'd have to go through all the advanced startup hoops to disable the driver enforcement again. The permanent solution was to put the OS into "Test mode", but really that was a bit of a sledgehammer approach for what could be solved by a simple "this driver is unsigned an you are responsible for everything that happens if you use it" dialog and beyond what would be expected of the average user.

The card is now in a Windows 8.1 machine which is happily using the driver. Funnily enough that won't be upgraded to Windows 10..

I decided to update my laptop first and see how I got on.So, hit 'download', downloaded it, and, erm...

No idea where it is or what to do next. This is the problem with all of this computer stuff, the people that create it think we're all geeks and just somehow know. Oh well...

Very true. Certainly where Microsoft has any involvement.

Taking the plunge to win7 to win 10, my main OS is on a SSD, you PH people recommend using the upgrade option using the mediacreation tool or make a USB/DVD option? Anything people recommend to do to make it painless of an upgrade? Ta!

Edit: On googling option "Keep personal files, apps or Windows settings (you will not have a clean installation of Windows 10.)" apps I presume that is an software I have installed! Ouch that going to take a while to reinstall the software! Grrr Tempted to do an upgrade now! can make an iso image of OS10 afterwards cant I?

It should download in the background/silently then tell you when it's ready to install IIRC.

Thing is that is actually annoying to us "geeks" since I'd like to know what's going on! moan
