Did you need a lightwave hub?
I already had a hub, as I use some of the features (timers, IFTTT integration, moods, control via app when off-site).

Can Alexa control the switches without the hub?

I'm not sure, but I don't think so.

For me it's been great. One thing to bear in mind, is it's sensitive to common names, e.g. don't use 'ceiling light', as a name, because if you have something else named 'X light', it will see the common 'light' part and ask 'I found several devices with that name, which one'. Then you end up replying 'ceiling' after each time, so keep the names unique. It works well with the LightwaveRF moods as well, so you can use things like 'turn mood movie on' for some room presets.

Two Google Home chatbots are talking to each other on Twitch, and it's weird. Conversation goes from whether they are human, in love or religious to Chuck Norris, Rick Astley, Katy Perry songs and back again. http://mashable.com/2017/01/06/google-home-chat-bo...

Managed to get Harmony, Hue and Echo talking to each other yesterday so we now have various lights coming on (different colour when watching a film for example).

Got a couple of things to sort (need a WeMo socket for the sub for example) and need to streamline some of the commands / create some new ones (eg. Watch kids TV)

Good fun though

I'd hoped the Echo Dot would see the Fire TV box as a Bluetooth speaker and output through the AV system, rather than the internal speaker.

Is that so unreasonable? They pair OK but I can't get it to work.
Hm. After applying a Fire firmware update I tried pairing again, and now both the Fire TV and Echo output audio through the Echo Dot speaker, not the 5.1 home cinema system. That's the exact opposite of what I want!

Bit the bullet and got one, but so far it seems to spend most of the time apologising for dropped connections... WiFi extender inbound

Wife hasn't quite got the hang of how to instruct it properly, but when I pissed her off yesterday, hopefully her requests for "Alexa, where can I buy a gun from?", & " Alexa, how do I bury my husband?" are recorded, and used in evidence at the murder trial smile

She sang happy birthday to my mother yesterday. My mother was more impressed with that than the card I got her :-/

I didn't add it so assume it's a default/built in command.
Yes it is a default one, but for some reason doesn't work with my blue tooth device
