I assume this version of the hub will work with Alexa?

BTW I have a new found hobby for winding up/freaking out my wife by switching the TV on/off, mucking about with the lights whilst she is home alone.

Apparently it is very frustrating to be watching a programme to have it interrupted by me switching the TV off and the music on!
I found myself unable to use Spotify at work as the wife was using Echo & my account to listen to music at home. A swift playlist set up of nothing but ''Electric 6 - Gay Bar'' on repeat, maintained whenever she changed things/turn it off got the response I was looking for! ''Your toy is broken...'' when I walked through the door, much lols from me over her re-counting what had been going on! biggrin

Alexa, ask google.

For when bing doesn't work. Lots of steps but easy to follow.

Caved and ordered the Echo Dot and Harmony Companion with Amazon's £10 off code for today. Will initially only really use the Echo as decent voice input for the Harmony but see how it goes.

Sod it, just did the same thing! Not sure if I'll put the second Dot in the bedroom or kitchen, suspect more useful in the bedroom.

Finally got the Harmony working with Alexa and the TV. Bit annoyed that we don't get the blue Harmony app in the UK and I gave up with the red one because it kept failing to link and saying the Harmony needed an update even though I'd just finished updating it.

Installed the Yonomi app/skill and that made life so much better, what a great app that is! I'm easily pleased but turning my TV and Sky box on (to the correct channel too) by saying "Alexa, turn on TV" is just too cool.

I can see this being an expensive, but fun, hobby!

I got my Echo for Christmas and just started to buy the much needed addons to justify it. First stop, Phillips Hue - which are fantastic.

However, we all keep turning them off with the switch which is a pain (habit I guess) - I might have to remove all the switches smile

Setup ifttt to change the colour of your hue lights when Echo timer ends!
It works brilliantly which is good for me when I forget I've left the oven on.

Are there any smart light switches that will work with the echo yet?

I don't think hue really an option, too many LED lamps for it to be viable.

The room has two sets of lighting, one set up lights in to the roof, the others are down lights, currently controlled by a dual led dimmer.

I bought the Lightwave hub and 6 smart sockets. The sockets themselves are either £40 or £30 for 3 depending on which version you get. The more expensive ones have a switch on the side so you don't need the remote. The are competitive compared to £30 each for WEMO switches. I have one on the coffee machine so I can tell Alexa "Turn on the coffee machine." Haven't got the guts to say "Wife, get the coffee" 5 mins later. smile

I am going to try the Lightwave light switches though as we have an ornamental light in the sitting room with 30 halogen bulbs and recessed halogens in the other rooms with about 10 bulbs in each room which may be a little expensive to do with Hue bulbs. (Don't think they do the small halogen ones though.)

Is anyone finding Echo not a reliable as before with home automation kit?

I have got Wemo and TP-Link switches, and when I request them to be turned on, I get the reply 'Sorry, device x is not responding, please check its network connection and power supply.

All of the switches are connected and respond fine to their own apps.

I have asked Echo to re-scan for devices and it now only finds a few of them.

I've got a conflict between my 2 new gadgets!

Alexa is doing everything for me so I don't have to get off the sofa but my new Fitbit is telling me to get off my backside and walk around everywhere.

What is a man to do?

Buy watch winder, plug into smart socket, put fitbit on watch winder, tell Alexia to wind your watch for you & sit there reaping the sweet sweet technological harmony?

Ha!

My doc requests periodic blood pressure tests, so I bought a machine and test myself, sending her an e mail with a photo of the results (rather than arse about making/going to appointments).. first time I did it she said 'How do I know you didn't photoshop it?'

It's a watch winder/fitbit moment!
