I'm still not sure of why I'd need one in my life. They aren't the nicest looking things so for timekeeping, I'd choose one of my wrist watches first.

I go running but I have an iPhone that tells me everything I need to know. I've never had an issue taking my iPhone out of my pocket if I get a text. I'm sure those who have one love them but they're not for me.

My girlfriend has an iPad (1 or 2, possibly 3) and it doesn't even have a working YouTube app any more as it apparently "requires" the latest iOS, that isn't available for that generation of iPad. YouTube is not the only app that won't work. Despite the hardware being fine, it is becoming less and less useful. I'm not really sure how that is supposed to be acceptable.
The iPad gave almost 5 years trouble free use. The YouTube thing is down to YouTube not apple, but there are third party apps and the website which work well. The latest iOS it will run is 5, which is showing its age now, understandable after such a time with technology. We still use ours as a sonos controller and web browsing.

Ignoring everything else it does, I'm surprised how nice it is as a watch. It wears smaller than the photos would indicate and is well crafted. It easily matches the craftsmanship of some of the Swiss watches I have, although I admit I have no Rolex.

Plus, being able to remotely control Nest from it is just such fun smile

I've got a Watch Steel. It's a really nice Watch: a quality feel. It does everything my Pebble did and more. Very happy with mine. My wife also loves hers.

If you don't want notifications to your wrist and don't need a fitness band you don't currently need a Smartwatch. You only need an Apple Watch if you habitually have an iPhone: it's an iPhone companion.

I actually have the full Apple suite: iCloud / MacBook / iPad / iPhone / Watch and it's true that they all work together brilliantly.

I love the Activity app. I use that every day. Trying to beat the targets and get fitter...

The consensus on these seem to be that it's a decent enough smartwatch, albeit a bit pricey.

The question to you is then.. do you fancy a smartwatch?

I'm a gadget person and I was almost convinced by the Moto 360 but in the end I like my normal watches too much.

I considered buying a smartwatch as a novelty.

But then I looked at just how many watches I have bought as novelties and never worn.
I have quite a few nice watches (roughly the value of the Apple Watch and going a lot higher than that) and I really only ever find myself wearing a 27 year old battered Datejust or occasionally Omega Speedmaster Profession. So now I just won't bother adding more watches since they won't be worn.

Whilst I haven't used the iwatch so can't comment on it compared with competitor versions, being apple it will almost definitely boost the area causing a leap in the technology and services available to it.

I am a bit of a geek so would probably have one if I could afford it...

Bought one to trial and see what development opportunities are available with it. Really impressed with the activity tracking stuff and so got SWMBO one aswell. I wouldn't recommend buying the premium version though, the Sport watches are perfectly fine.

I once heard someone say that they could 'triage messages at the wrist' with one on rofl

I don't want to be that person.
Oh jesus that is bad,

"Do you want chips or Alphabites for tea"

I would have ordered one, sport in black (not spending £600) but its two weeks delivery and it will be on the verge of going away.

I thought that, then went to try them on. The SS models are just so much more suited to a work environment so it was definitely worth it for me.

What impressed you on the activity tracking? The lack of accurate heart rate monitoring, or the lack of sleep tracking?

Being as I said that you can both f**k off. laugh It works for me. Last week that capability has been truly f**king useful as I've been dealing with work, the sale of a house, and a range of personal issues. The ability to sort out what needs doing when has been invaluable. Everything needed responding to. Some things immediately. I use messaging and email as real-time communications. If you don't - you don't need that facility. If you do....it's a revelation.

Gimmicky load of pants, I thought, when I set two up for clients.

There's a reason that phone screens have been getting bigger and bigger, and tablets are popular - screen size is everything.

The funny thing is that the people that own them all have a iPhone in their pocket. Something far, far better. In their pocket. Just get your phone out and use it!

There certainly is, but its got nothing to do with consumer demand or quality of the product.

If you want to tell the time, buy a normal watch.

If you want to tell people you have more money than sense, buy an iWatch wink
If you want to tell people you have no taste buy a Nissan Skyline. wink

I bought the iWatch primarily as a fitness band. It is not much dearer than other fitness products and performs a lot of other functions. My wrist now 'pings' every time my footie team score or conceed a goal. Happy days.
