Comfy. Good bass. Loud. What headphones?
Discussion
Just sold my Beats Solo HD's. Im looking for their replacement.
In the meantime in using my Apple EarBuds, which I generally find super comfortable.
The Beats were very good for what i wanted, very bass heavy and quite loud, but they leaked a lot of sound. To an extent where I couldn't listen to my music loud anywhere, or everyone could hear it. I know thats annoying, because it annoys me too.
I think id like some in-ears this time, but won't completely rule out some on-ears again if they look nice enough.
Any recommendations welcomed, honest as possible as obviously I can't try out in-ears.

Up to the price of Solo HD 2's I suppose. About £150, but if I can get some good ones for less, then id obviously rather have those.
Ill have a look at the ones you've suggested, how much bass do they give? Thanks.
ETA; Just seen the CX 5.00's on John Lewis, they look pretty good if the sound is right.

I have a set of SoundMagic E10s' for in-ear/commuting headphones and a set of Sol Republic Master Tracks for home listening (big, bulky and on-ear but so so good). Both are in your budget.
E10's look very cheap with some pretty good reviews. Ill add them to the list of potential buys. Thanks. Not too fussed about a pair for in the house, usually just play it through my speakers.

Beats / beatz the box costs more than the headsets - fact
i was being hilarious. They're for s who don't like music. Someone on the WWW did a teardown recently and apparently the components are worth a total of about a fiver. Someone at my work wears bright blue wireless ones. No i mean he wears them all the time, every time i see him and regardless of what he's doing. I assume he's listening to music, but I amuse myself (again) by imagining him listening to Tony Robbins life coaching tapes.
Well it started out helpful. I wasn't asking about Beats. They are gone now, so why anyone feels the need to turn this into a bhing thread about them, i don't know.

Bose QuietComfort around-ear.
Superb sound, very comfortable, and kill noise very effectively. I don't take a flight without them.
Thanks, but a (admittedly quick) look on Google says QuietComforts are out of my price range?Superb sound, very comfortable, and kill noise very effectively. I don't take a flight without them.
Beatz are a Marketing triumph. Not much Money put into them but the price is ridiculous. They also are pretty unbalanced sound wise. I would look at the B&W P5 and P7. The P5 is on ear whereas the P7's are Over Ear. The B&O H6's are also worth looking at. Especially the "Pepsi" Ltd editions which are selling about £100 less than the standard Headphones on Amazon..

yes I 'bhed' about them, but your requirements are somewhat confused.justanother5tar said:

Good Choice cos they are crap, plenty of excellent alternatives......lets go peoplejustanother5tar said:

oh dear, so you want the same kind of sound!...................back to Beats then, cos anything decent will sound kinda weedy (but more accurate) in comparison to beats.

ok but you still want them to sound like beats?justanother5tar said:

nothing like the beats, cos beats are sh'iite and the recommended ones are good. All the ones mentioned will be good, the £150 price bracket is full of decent stuff, but none will give the bass of the beats
So do you want them to have a sound balance like beats or not? or was that a red herring? If you do, just buy the beats.

Now for the none bhy bit
for lower leakage either go for in ear or closed over ear (not open or on ear) Or don't put them that loud - its really not good for you and you are risking having hearing loss in your 40's 50's.
I use sennheiser HD25-1 ii, which are used a lot in broadcasting (think sports commontators on TV) for broadcast monitoring and DJ's(but don't think bass heavy), They are also very robust and their modular design means everything is repairable/replaceable and Sennheiser keep spares for years and years. unlike most modern headphones.
I have no idea how they sound with the kind of music I suspect you play, but I'm absolutely certain they will sound totally different to Beats, as will almost all the alternatives people will suggest.
However the Sennheisers are not pretty and they are not over ear. You can get them for under your budget. beware there are two Sennheiser headphones with similar name (HD25) and appearance, one is a lot cheaper than the other - so be careful if you think you've found a bargain. the one you want is the split headband version. The cost can also be reduced by opting for no spare cushions or carry bag.
I recently compared them against a pair of colleagues Sony MDR-1A headphones at £160 (available cheaper) and the Sennheisers just pipped them on the bass accuracy and level, otherwise the Sony's sounded very good (i'm talking really tiny difference). The sony's were a damn site prettier as well and had inline controls for next and volume and mic, which makes them very versatile as well. but I suspect less robust/fixable in the long term.

Another prob with the sennheisers they may not be readilly available to audition as they are not 'fashion' so aren't readilly available in the likes of curry's and other high street outlets. I listened to mine on Tottenham Court Road when I bought them 5 years ago or so. They've been lumped around London on a daily basis for 4 of the last 5 years (I had a break for a year when I got some bluetooth ones)..............See I said they were robust

Have a set of B&W P3 which is ok but not great, a little too bass-heavy for my taste but fairly accurate and detailed. Folding design so ok to take on the road. Worth considering, I paid 100 euro for them new. Guess if you like Beats, you can learn to appreciate these in time ...
At home I use the AKG K-701 which is by far superior on all fronts, but open back and needs a powerful amp to drive them. Paid 200 euro new, EXCELLENT value!
