This is getting silly now. The OH and I would both like to update our aging iPhones. She has a 3GS and I have a 4S.

I can't get a 6S because it requires iTunes 12 and the newest version of OSX that my ancient MacBook Pro will run reliably is 10.6.8 which won't run iTunes later than 11.4.

The OH can't get a 6S because it requires Windows 7 or 8 and her laptop runs Vista.

We cant use iCloud to back up our old phones before restoring the backups to our new phones, because the data stored on our phones far exceeds our 40GB monthly data limit on BT Infinity.

We thought of buying a cheap Windows laptop, purely so we could manage our new iPhones, but new ones run Windows 10. Remember, the iPhone 6S requires Windows 7 or 8.

When we suddenly thought "WTF!, why the hell are we thinking of buying a laptop we don't need just so we can get new phones?"

There must be an easier way!

Use work WiFi if you have it to do the backup? I have no idea if that's viable or not though.

We do have Wi-Fi at work but you have to 'apply' for access so they can keep tabs on what people are doing with it. I suspect 50+MB up and then 50MB down again might raise a few eyebrows.

I'd rather not have a phone that I can't back up as and when I wish.

Upgrade vista to Windows 7? See if the apple shop can do a backup and restore? You could even buy a Windows 7 laptop used on eBay, use it for the transfer, then sell it. One thing MS and the PC industry did wrong commercially was to create a stack that doesn't need upgrading v often. Apple have coined it in by kind of forcing you into it on many fronts. If you're Apple 'soup to nuts' then that's what you've bought into already.

A 6S will work fine with Windows 10.

I upgraded and then restored from 5 to 6S using vista just fine. No issues on my 9 year old toshiba laptop.

Finally upgraded my iPhone 4 to a 6S 64GB!

Am still getting used to the size. Like to have my little finger under the base of the phone while using it, but this is trickier with the 6S!

Have chucked a basic black case on it. Really annoys me that I have to have a case on the handset - is so slippy without one. Have never needed a case on a phone before.

Am still learning the new shortcuts/features.

Really happy with it though. How's everyone else getting on with theirs?

I was worried about the size of it but I've had it since release day and it's not been an issue. In fact, my other half handed me her 5S to do a Candy Crush level for her and I could barely see the screen! It was awful and I wondered how I not only lived with the 5S in the past but why I loved it so much!

Apple have released an iPhone 6 battery case, good for 25 hours according to the blurb. $99. Jony Ive must have been drunk when he did this one, whats going on with that hump?

Thanks for posting, I didn't know they did these. As I sit here with my phone on 1% I couldn't help but order one!

So glad I went for the 6S+ near in 2 full days use - which means if I'm hard on it one day it will never run out of juice.

Surely the cheaper option there would be to upgrade your Infinity package rather than buy a new laptop? hehe

That's interesting, I didn't hear anything about the battery being notably improved on the 6S? If it is actually much better I'll order one now!

Just looked online and it seems the battery is not any better at all in the S, if anything it's actually worse. What I didn't notice is that you said PLUS, I think the plus models are much better battery life than the regular, my fiancees plus lasts far longer than mine with similar usage. Unfortunately the Plus is too big for my pockets!

Yep it's the plus battery is a 2.8 v a 1.8 I think the iphone5s is 1.5. To me that was the sole reason for going with the plus over the non plus.
