Well everyone seems to call themselves a developer these days so it's the same thing really. So as you're a dev can you tell me how I select a row of text in one gesture now then?
two-finger tap anywhere along the row in question.

i'd be interested to know what the new two-gesture select is, as i can't figure it out! If you double-tap a word in the row, you can then expand each end of the selection to either end of the row, but it's very faffy and sometimes it jumps down 50 rows without warning and i end up throwing my phone at the wall.

Mrs 2cv wants a new phone and having costed it all out it looks like the 6 is no cheaper than the 6s in real terms. Maybe £50 over 2 years. That's looking at various deals, buying phone on eBay and getting SIM only, all sorts. Weird. I thought previously it always saved a fair bit to go with previous version. Maybe values will drop in a few weeks?! She wants a rose gold one anyway so i think her mind is made up.

Depends what contract you need. O2 are dong a 4gb. Unlimited calls/text sim only for 19.54 at the moment.
even then though. The phone she wants is (was) iphone 6 64Gb and they're about £500-540 new, now, which is £22.50 a month over 2 years. With the SIM that's £42 a month. Mobile phones direct are knocking out 6s 64Gb with 10Gb data on EE, unlimited everything else, £40 upfront for the phone and then £45 a month. The 6 doesn't appear to be sufficiently cheaper to consider it. The same website only has the same deal with the equivalent iphone 6 at the same cost, only difference is it's free upfront... £40 cheaper over 2 years!!

Are these glass screen covers really worth it? I picked up an apple leather case today which the quality is what you'd expect but I've seen some of these glass screen protectors that don't cover the whole screen.
yes but need to choose wisely. Tech Armor are the best, I've them on two phones, very thin and they match the screen features exactly with no messy cut-outs or gaps. Also works with tight and thin cases. They're actually slightly better than the screen surface because they're oleophobic so clean themselves off of fingerprints etc over time.

the deals this time around even though the 6s has just come out seem to work out not much more expensive than buying a 6 outright etc., so I can only assume they are about the same as buying a 6s outright. Weird as when I got my 6 i did buy it outright, and it worked out far cheaper than the deals that were around at the time... and that was as soon as it came out a year ago. So, it's now a non-argument. Just go get a contract.

Mrs 2CV's new iPhone 6s 64Gb in Rose Gold arrived yesterday. Apparently when I got married I signed a 30 minute resolution SLA for all IT problems as as soon as I walked in the door from work she was demanding I transfer all her contacts, photos and everything to the new phone, as she was going out shortly. She actually got in the huff because I said I wouldn't be able to do it before then. It's OK though as I am WFH today so I have loads of time to do it rolleyes

It happens with about 4 presses of the screen if you use icloud. Backup-Restore... done.
i didn't say it was difficult, it was a question of time. Also icloud backup had never backed her photos up and was refusing to so ended up having to copy those off manually... so it wasn't easy in the end either.

Tell me more - I went through the laborious process last night of backing up my 6 to the laptop - you mean I don't have to do this? biggrin
One of the annoying things with doing a full backup and restore is that it tries to restore to the level of iOS in the backup, so it was trying to install iOS 8 on the 6s!

Why is it that you can only get st cases and screen protectors in uk? All the ones with decent reviews are only available in USA. Maybe because most of the reviews are US... I've had to have both shipped from there for Mrs 2cv.

Upgrade vista to Windows 7? See if the apple shop can do a backup and restore? You could even buy a Windows 7 laptop used on eBay, use it for the transfer, then sell it. One thing MS and the PC industry did wrong commercially was to create a stack that doesn't need upgrading v often. Apple have coined it in by kind of forcing you into it on many fronts. If you're Apple 'soup to nuts' then that's what you've bought into already.
