They only have a small library at the moment, so probably geared more towards more mainstream popular music for now, possibly driven by sales on their download service. I hope they have got all their licensing and reports all sorted cos they are a right pain in the ass.
A million plus at the moment and growing.

I'm happy enough - had a root through it over the last week or so and they only thing they dont seem to have that i'd listen to is Slayer.
Once it gets to 10m then that should cover 99.9% of use cases. The other 30 odd million songs are probably never accessed...

Anyone notice any quality issues?

I'm trying it out alongside Spotify premium at the moment and I have to say the audio quality on my phone on downloaded tracks is awful. Crackly and sub par.

Album is Foo Fighters Greatest hits running on an HTC One M8 running android 5.0.1.

Just done a direct comparision test on my Nexus 4 phone.

Can't determine any noticeable difference in "quality" per se playing through the phone's speaker or a Bose bluetooth speaker - neither version has any crackling whatsoever.

Amazon version actually sounds "fuller" and is certainly a bit louder - both are actually very good.

Spotify is downloading at "Normal" quality, Equalizer OFF

Amazon on default settings apart from Download Only on WiFi is checked.

Same settings as me...

Hmm. It really does sound crap. You wouldn't want to listen to it! I'll try deleting and re- downloading.

Try this ... OK music might not be your taste, but makes for a good comparision test.

Download ELO Out of the Blue on both spotify and prime.

Compare Mr Blue Sky and Wild West Hero - both have good intros for making a back to back test.

Bearing in mind its FREE and covers 99.9% of my needs, i'm more than happy with it.

If you wish to pay for a service that potentially gives you more that up to you really.

Can you try a different device?

Tablet or PC for example.

Does your phone play mp3's cleanly?

Might be worth uninstalling Amazon Music app and reinstalling.

Tried on my mac. Works fine.

Everything else plays clearly on my phone.

Uninstalled and reinstalled already...

I'd stop, but any d/l's are still MP3, very little is available lossless and seeing as my whole collection is flac I thought I would keep it that way. Also, CD's are often cheaper than buying the album as a d/l (at the least for the old man music I listen to).
On many CDs, Amazon allow you to buy the CD and also have the MP3s available for immediate download. I tend to do for this, so I have a hard backup in the form of the CD, which I can rip to higher quality if I so wish, with the convenience of pre-ripped DRM-free MP3s immediately. Works for me anyway.

Edit: As an added bonus, if you're a Prime member and choose the "no hurry" delivery option (or whatever it's called), you get some cashback to use on further purchases. Since I have the MP3s immediately available, I don't mind if the physical CD takes a while to arrive.

Yeah, I know about that and have used the streaming facility to play stuff via the AFTV. The main point is it's still MP3 not FLAC or lossless. If I could d/l lossless I would and I'd stop with the CD's. Even when you can get lossless it more expensive or not what I want.

There is a limit to the no-rush credit isn't there. I keep forgetting about it as I can't seem my credits easily.

Have you tried https://tracks.technics.com/ yeah, it can be a bit more expensive, agreed, but should be a fairly decent catalogue which is growing day by day smile

Didn't know about that one, thanks. Don't need hi-res as my gear isn't good enough and it's generally more expensive but actually a pretty good selection.

Oh, for sure. I didn't intend to imply that it was.

What I was saying was that "good enough" DRM-free MP3s are available immediately whilst the CD is on the way. For listening in the car, unless you have a monumentally good car hi-fi, MP3s are generally "good enough" so there is a real convenience factor. For me, at least.

Anyway, this is straying slightly off-topic. smile

Wow....i'm impressed. I haven't even signed up for the Prime, just loaded the app on my iphone. Logged in to my normal amazon account and all the CD's I've ever bought on Amazon are here! Just sat in the cloud awaiting downloading if needed, or I can play straight from the cloud. It's even got all my itunes music here too!

Might sign up to Prime now to see what all this fuss is about. I don't use Amazon that much, I only use the free Spotify, I don't stream TV. Could it be a waste of £79? Might be, but the fact that it's effectively £6.58 a month means it's not a big deal.

Come on then.......enlighten me......what else am I getting for my money???

It depends on how "into" Amazon you are. If you're like me and you buy a metric fktonne of stuff through Amazon then it's worth it for the free one-day delivery alone. Then add on Amazon Prime Video, the cloud storage, the music, and the Kindle Lending Library, and it's quite a lot for the money.

There's a 30 free trial of Amazon Prime.

Do you have Sky?

Since using Prime I've reviewed and amended my Sky subscription, saving me about £25 per month.

I do have sky but only the basic channels and can't ever see me leaving them due to the fantastic UI and features (sky plus, remote record, Sky go, etc).

I do like the Amazon books library idea, and the music app seems much easier to use than the new Music app on my iphone (which I hate with a passion), but then I do like the iTunes Match facility, which {ahem} 'cleans' up my dodgy music smile

So how best do I get Amazon TV? Do I get sent a little box or something? Or is it a case of playing the macbook on the TV which isn't ideal. I have an apple tv which I don't really use other than for play my video clips from the iphone onto the tv, but the phone gets fairly hot so I wouldn't really want to use the phone for streaming Amazon TV for any length of time.

There are various ways. For example, some tellies and boxes may have an Amazon Prime app available - my Sony Blueray player does. It's just a case of using that.

You can get a dedicated Amazon TV box, but it is an additional purchase. I got mine at a special introductory pre-order price of £39 back when it was released but it is currently £79. In the recent Amazon Prime Sale that dropped to £59 for a while.
There is also an Amazon TV stick which is a cut-down version, which is £39 I think.

But if any of your kit supports the Amazon Prime app then it's probably better to use that, good though the Amazon TV box is.
