Anyone got experiance of an iPhone breaking and replacement?
Discussion
I've got an iphone 5s, got it from the carphone warehouse on an ee contract in November last year.
It's developed a rattle inside, sounds like a screw is bouncing around inside it near the top, and on the occasional call, the listening speaker will distort and crackle badly for a few seconds. It can be stopped by shaking whatever is rattling about, so I suspect a screw is tampering with the speaker somehow.
What do i do, take it into the apple shop or something? Im assuming its free because it's only 8 months old. I put my serial number into the apple website and it confirms it's still under some EU law warranty or something.
And do they just insta-replace, or do they send away for repair? And if so, what do i do for a phone in that case?
Is it something they'll sort there and then, because my nearest apple store is an hours drive away, and I've seen less than favourable stories about getting a warranty phone sorted/fixed by your local network providers store.

My experience:
I dropped my iphone 6 smashing the screen to pieces.
I'm nowhere near an apple store, so I filled out an online service request.
Next day a box arrived.
I took it to the post office on Monday 11:30 and Weds 13:30 a UPS delivery man handed me a package containing a new phone.

Care to elaborate then?
Far cleverer people than me could explain this better, but read this - http://www.apple.com/uk/legal/statutory-warranty/Specifically this bit -
Should your product be defective or if it does not conform with the contract of sale, you can choose to make a claim under UK consumer law, the Apple One-Year Limited Warranty or the optional AppleCare Protection Plan or AppleCare+ (whichever is applicable).
The highlighted part above = 2 years from date of purchase in UK consumer law.
Apple are being sneaky by trying to sell you cover in the 2nd year for a product that is still within warranty.
Doesn't just apply to Apple, all electronic goods have the same protection I believe.

If it's under a year old and provided there is no user damage apple will replace it straight away at no cost. If it's over 1 year old they'll replace it for £200.
Not necessarily the case. un1corn said:
Can I just walk in to the nearest one or will I be scorned for failing to adhere to genius laws?
It's like turning up at an airport to buy a ticket for a flight, except you know it's already fully booked. You're hoping on a cancellation.Just book the soonest appointment you can and put up with it until then.
If the noise is as obvious as you say, I'd be surprised if you weren't walking out with a brand new phone in less than 30 minutes after your appointment starts. I've had ones where I'm out the door in less than 10.

It's nothing like that. He's not buying anything, it's customer service that he wants.Just book the soonest appointment you can and put up with it until then.

If you had a faulty item and walked into a store to be told to come back next week, would you be happy? I don't know another shop that does that.
Apple are the only company that can make people a wait a week for simple customer care, yet people still manage to put a positive spin on that.
If any other electrical shop did that they would be flooded with complaints.

I want a shop.
I also want a shop I can use before 7th August, and want to use the shop nearest me, not the 3rd nearest one, which is a 90 minute drive away.

Then take it back to Carphone Warehouse - that's who your contract is with and who, under SOGA, has the responsibility (and right) to rectify the fault.I want a shop.

ETA - not SOGA, the other one, Supply of Goods and Services Act.

Except they will say Apple is the manufacturer and refer you back to them.
And they will be both right (about who made it) and wrong (about who has the responsibility in law).ecsrobin said:
Except I bet if you read the small print it says otherwise. If it was breaking the law I'm sure some Samsung fan would have taken them to court by now.
Probably not - it seems most people don't know the legal position and believe what retailers tell them. http://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights/problem/my-...Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
