My mother in law has a 32 inch 5-8 year old tv, she needs a a new TV and I was wondering what do you recommend for a granny that is 37 size? Thinking ahead I wouldn't want anything too complicated on the controls side so I don't have to keep popping around wink She has a box she plugs into it, I think that must be video cassette, probably betamax. Only joking.

Anything with decent sound, these tv's are getting so thin you don't get something an elderly person might be able to hear without external speakers.

This may sound lazy, but samsung and lg both offer great devices in all price ranges, can't really go wrong with either.

The only TV's I remember having decent sound now are deffo higher end, but you can get a soundbar for reasonable money, lots of them won't need setting up/turning on.

If it's just the granny though, I would invest in a pair of decent headphones, wired or wireless. Volume goes way up, without disturbing anyone. Most tv's allow headphone+speaker out at the same time so it's even a solution when there's someone with her. Not very social, but deffo better than having the TV turned up to eleven.

Best sound on a standard flat screen I've found to be Panasonic. But maybe more important (as it is to my hard of hearing Dad) is good sized and legible subtitles. I've seen some TVs where subtitles are quite fuzzy compared with others excellent (Panasonic good again!).

But overall, a simple to use remote control - especially as Freeview "retune required" pops up regularly - with nice clear legible buttons.

Not a huge selection of 37", much better choice in 40".

I'd strongly recommend buying a TV from Richer Sounds if you can, they include a 6 year guarantee for free on most TV's - and it's collect and return on 40" and over.

I recommend LG! Although I don't think you can go far wrong with any of the major manufacturers.

I think the hardest thing nowadays is to avoid paying more for pointless gimmicks...I have used the "apps" and internet on my TV exactly 0 times.

Whatever you buy granny. Buy one for you.

There will be questions.
If you have the same set somewhere..... you can answer them quickly

Or spend a lifetime on the phone.
