Good afternoon all.

Im sure a few of you maybe aware that the ability to provide computing power to contribute to finding cures for some of life’s most threatening illnesse.

I was first aware of it 8 years ago when it launched on the PS3. Iv since noticed its available on Android and PC (and probably has been for a while). Many of us have pc's on 24/7 so why not help out with some computing power? You can form teams to compete around the world for the amount of "points" you have generated.

Is anyone on here doing this and has there ever been any chatter about starting a PH team? Would anyone be interested?

(ps, i did use the search and find threads so old that they are in the archive)

Ignore the "PS3" bit...

I've not done any for ages, as I left the company whose PC I was using. hehe

Hi guys,

Unfortunately I have stopped contributing to this but hopefully just temporarily.

There was a couple of reasons for this one, firstly my machine was kicking out so much heat that i was getting home and my study was like an oven. Secondly, it was costing me a fortune in electricity and my bill is now about a third of what it was previously.

Keep up the good work and hope to be back contributing soon.

I've joined!
I doubt I will be able to help much as my computer isn't on that much and it's not especially quick.

Just joined as six_wheels.

Wonder how competitive this'll get.

Nice one OP, I've been meaning to start this for ages!

Thanks, but i do not deserve any credit, it seems far more dedicated phers have been doing it for a while under an older thread. But if it helps out a good cause it's worth it

Not looked into this before, although i have head of distributed computing (SETI@HOME), but this was years back, before the like of Nvidia and AMD GPUs were mainstream.
I'm guessing that using my AMD 290x GPU will be more beneficial than the i7 processor on the home PC, does the software support GPU usage or will i have to jump through hoops to get it to work?

I seem to be making a nice dent into the amount of work being carried out.
I'm now 23rd on the list, with only completing 17WU.

Both the i7 and the 290x are churning away quite nicely.

Sorry to be dim, and the fact I'm asking this is proof I probably shouldn't even be on this thread, but can someone explain in plain english just what these computers linked together are doing?
